PIÑAN, Zamboanga del Norte — Residents of Piñan no longer had to travel far to access a range of government services as the provincial government brought its Kuyog Ta! Medical and Serbisyo Caravan to Barangay Poblacion North.
The initiative, conducted with the support of GC Services on Wheels, brought multiple government agencies together to provide free assistance covering healthcare, civil registration, identification, agriculture, veterinary services, social welfare and other community needs.
The caravan offered residents access to free medical consultations, medicines, dental services and oatmeal through the Provincial Health Office. The local Rural Health Unit and the Bureau of Fire Protection also helped with vital-sign checks and beneficiary registration.
Free healthcare and veterinary assistance
Among those who benefited was 71-year-old David M. Castillon of Mutia, who received an eye check-up and a free pair of reading glasses.
The activity also extended assistance to families engaged in backyard gardening. The Provincial Agriculture Office distributed vegetable seeds and ready-to-plant seedlings, including tomatoes and eggplants, giving residents an opportunity to grow food at home.
Pet owners and livestock raisers were also included. The Provincial Veterinary Office provided services such as anti-rabies vaccination and vitamins, bringing basic animal-care assistance closer to the community.
IDs, birth registration and social assistance included
The caravan was not limited to medical services.
Residents could also access PhilHealth profiling, Philippine Statistics Authority National ID registration, free birth registration through the Municipal Civil Registrar, and assistance from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
Officials also provided information on proper waste segregation, while the Piñan Municipal Police Station offered free haircuts as part of the community services.
The wide range of services reflects an effort to bring several government programs directly to communities instead of requiring residents to visit different offices separately.
Local officials welcome closer government services
Piñan Municipal Vice Mayor Benedicto C. Cainta II expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the provincial government and local officials.
He specifically thanked 1st District Congressman Roberto “Pinpin” Uy and the Zamboanga del Norte provincial government, led by Governor Darel Dexter T. Uy, for helping bring medical assistance and other government programs closer to residents.
The caravan highlights a broader approach to community-based public service: bringing multiple agencies to one location so residents can access essential assistance in a more convenient and direct way.
