MANILA, Philippines — For Shuvee Etrata, New York City was once the kind of place she could only admire from a distance. Now, the Kapuso actress and former Pinoy Big Brother housemate is walking its streets herself—and her latest photos are turning that long-held dream into a very public milestone.
Etrata shared snapshots from her New York trip on Instagram, posing around some of the city’s most recognizable urban scenery, including Grand Central Terminal, a subway station and streets filled with New York’s signature yellow taxis.
Dressed casually in a brown lace top and jeans, the actress summed up the experience with a simple caption about being a girl enjoying an iced chocolate in a city she once only saw “from afar.”
The photos may look like another celebrity travel diary, but they arrive at a particularly important moment in Etrata’s career.
From Reality TV Breakout to Rising Kapuso Actress
Etrata has steadily expanded her profile beyond social media and reality television.
She previously joined the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition, and not long afterward landed increasingly prominent acting projects under GMA. In 2025, GMA announced that Etrata and fellow former housemate Charlie Fleming would both join the cast of the action-drama series The Master Cutter.
That project eventually gave Etrata one of her most visible television roles yet: Tonet, a lively provincial character she said felt especially close to her own personality and Bisaya roots.
Etrata has also been open about how seriously she takes the transition into acting.
While working on The Master Cutter, she described herself as a “work in progress,” saying she regularly sought guidance from directors, workshops and colleagues on set. Rather than presenting her success as something achieved alone, she credited the wider team around her for helping develop her craft.
Her character Tonet has since exited the series, closing another chapter in Etrata’s rapidly evolving television career.
Another Dream Role Is Already Waiting
Her New York getaway is also happening before another significant career move.
Etrata is part of GMA’s upcoming medical drama “Code Grey,” where she is set to portray Nurse Pinky Diaz alongside Alden Richards, who plays a doctor.
The role carries extra significance for Etrata because she previously revealed that portraying someone in the medical profession—particularly a nurse—was one of the roles she had wanted to take on.
She also described working with Richards as another professional dream come true.
The series has been developed with added preparation for its hospital setting. GMA reported that members of the cast underwent immersion in an actual hospital, while Richards said the production was working to make medical terminology and procedures believable and understandable for viewers.
The ensemble also includes Andrea Torres, Christopher de Leon, Romnick Sarmenta, Faith Da Silva, Allen Ansay, Joross Gamboa, Christian Bautista, Kristoffer Martin and Jon Lucas.
Why Shuvee Etrata’s New York Photos Are More Than a Vacation Post
Celebrity trips to New York are hardly unusual.
What gives Etrata’s post more emotional weight is the contrast embedded in her own description of the city: this was somewhere she once viewed from a distance.
That makes the photos an easy symbol of just how quickly her world has expanded.
From entering the PBB house and building a larger national audience to appearing in primetime dramas, working with veteran performers and preparing for another major television project, Etrata is now navigating opportunities that would have looked considerably farther away earlier in her career.
And New York—one of those destinations that once existed mainly on the other side of a screen—is now part of that story.
For fans following her rise, the trip therefore feels less like an ordinary holiday update and more like a snapshot of a young entertainer discovering just how much her circumstances have changed.
The city she once watched from afar is suddenly right outside her window.
And judging by what is already lined up for her back home, New York may not be the biggest destination Shuvee Etrata reaches next.
