PATTAYA, Thailand — A late-night confrontation near Pattaya’s famous Walking Street ended with a 48-year-old Indian tourist being taken to hospital after he was found unconscious on the road early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at around 4:20 a.m. on September 1, outside a seafood restaurant near Walking Street, according to reports from Bangkok Post, The Pattaya News and The Thaiger.
Police and rescue workers were called after reports of an assault. When officers arrived, they found the tourist, identified in local reports as Raval Devang Dharnisthkumar, lying unconscious and reportedly vomiting. Fellow Indian tourists were nearby attempting to help him.
Rescue personnel provided first aid before transporting him to hospital.
How the confrontation reportedly began
Witness accounts indicate the situation started after the heavily intoxicated tourist allegedly wandered around the area and appeared to provoke people before approaching a parking area used by restaurant customers.
A 58-year-old nearby vendor told authorities that she saw the man staggering and apparently trying to pick fights before heading toward the parking area.
A 36-year-old parking attendant, identified as Pornchai in local reports, gave police another account of what happened.
According to his statement, the tourist approached a parked vehicle and began pulling at it. The parking attendant said he intervened because he believed the vehicle could be damaged.
The tourist allegedly punched the attendant in the face.
The attendant told police that he responded with one punch.
The confrontation then escalated when a motorcycle taxi rider reportedly pushed the tourist. He fell to the ground and lost consciousness, according to the attendant’s account.
Police have not reached a final conclusion
Despite the accounts from witnesses and people involved, authorities have not yet publicly established the complete sequence of events or assigned final legal responsibility.
Those involved were taken to Muang Pattaya Police Station for questioning, while investigators began examining CCTV footage from the area.
The surveillance recordings could prove important in determining exactly what happened immediately before the tourist fell and whether additional people were involved in the confrontation.
For now, the accounts being reported remain witness and participant statements rather than a final police finding.
Pattaya increases attention on tourist safety
The incident comes as Pattaya is under heightened security attention because the city is currently preparing for the USS Abraham Lincoln’s September 2–6, 2026 shore leave, with roughly 5,000 U.S. Navy personnel expected in the area.
Thailand’s government public-relations office said Pattaya has activated enhanced security and crime-prevention measures and reminded visitors that authorities are maintaining strict enforcement against unlawful activity.
Pattaya has also expanded its surveillance infrastructure. The city says it has hundreds of CCTV cameras operating across the area, while additional security measures are being deployed during the current high-profile visitor period.
The latest altercation therefore arrives at a particularly sensitive moment for the resort city, where authorities are attempting to balance a busy nightlife economy with public safety and the protection of international visitors.

The key question now is what investigators find on CCTV.
The available reports agree that the tourist was heavily intoxicated, an altercation occurred near a restaurant parking area, and he ultimately lost consciousness. But the precise chain of events leading to his fall remains under investigation.
Until police complete their review, claims about who was legally at fault should be treated cautiously.
