Singapore’s electric vehicle market is getting another new contender as Chinese automaker Changan introduces the Q05, a compact electric SUV designed to attract buyers looking for modern technology, practical interior space and an affordable entry into electric driving.
The Changan Q05 made its Singapore debut at The Car Expo 2026, held at Singapore Expo on October 24 and 25. The new model joins the growing number of Chinese electric vehicles competing for attention in Singapore’s increasingly crowded automotive market.
With an exclusive launch price of S$174,999, the five-seater electric SUV enters the Category A Certificate of Entitlement (COE) segment, placing it against established competitors such as the BYD Atto 3.
The launch also marks another step in Changan’s expansion in Singapore, where Chinese automotive manufacturers are increasingly introducing feature-packed electric vehicles to challenge established brands.
Changan Q05 Offers 394km of Driving Range
One of the Q05’s main selling points is its 51.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which powers a front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 99kW, equivalent to approximately 135 horsepower, and 190Nm of torque.
According to its Singapore specifications, the vehicle delivers a claimed Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) combined driving range of 394km on a full charge.
Under the WLTP city driving cycle, the range can reach up to 566km, although actual driving distances will depend on traffic conditions, driving habits, weather and other factors.
The electric SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 90kW. Changan says charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent takes approximately 25 minutes under suitable conditions.
For home charging, the vehicle also supports AC charging at up to 6.6kW.
These specifications make the Q05 a potential option for motorists who primarily drive within Singapore and want an electric vehicle suitable for everyday commuting and family use.
Spacious Interior With Modern Technology
Despite being positioned as a compact SUV, the Changan Q05 offers practical dimensions and storage capacity.
The vehicle measures 4,435mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,600mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735mm.
It accommodates five passengers and provides 450 litres of boot space. Folding the rear seats increases the available storage capacity to 1,380 litres.
An additional 90-litre underfloor storage compartment provides room for smaller belongings and charging accessories.
Inside, the Q05 features a 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen paired with a 10.17-inch digital instrument display.
Other equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control, a 50W wireless smartphone charger and a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade.
The cabin also features ventilated front seats and 256-colour ambient lighting, adding comfort and convenience for occupants.
These features reflect Changan’s approach of offering technology and convenience equipment in a vehicle positioned within the more accessible electric SUV segment.
Advanced Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The Q05 also comes equipped with a range of driver-assistance technologies designed to improve convenience and safety.
Its available systems include adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistance, lane-centering control, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
Additional features include lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
A 3D around-view camera system with transparent chassis technology is also designed to help drivers navigate tight parking spaces and manoeuvre through crowded areas.
However, these technologies are driver-assistance systems and should not be mistaken for fully autonomous driving capabilities.
A Growing Chinese Electric Vehicle Presence in Singapore
Changan’s Q05 arrives as competition among Chinese automotive manufacturers continues to intensify in Singapore.
Brands such as BYD, XPENG, GAC, Zeekr and other emerging manufacturers are expanding their presence with electric vehicles offering competitive specifications and increasingly sophisticated technology.
The Q05 is particularly notable because it enters the Category A COE electric vehicle segment, where buyers are often more sensitive to vehicle pricing, running costs and overall practicality.
Changan has also described the Q05 as one of China’s best-selling models in its segment, reporting more than 100,000 units sold.
The vehicle was previously expected to be marketed in Singapore under the Nevo name. However, the company ultimately introduced it under the broader Changan brand.
The model is also part of Changan’s wider international expansion strategy, which includes developing its presence across Southeast Asian automotive markets.
Can the Changan Q05 Challenge Singapore’s Popular Electric SUVs?
The Q05’s biggest selling points are its practical five-seat configuration, 394km claimed WLTP combined range, modern cabin equipment and competitive positioning within Singapore’s Category A electric vehicle market.
Its S$174,999 exclusive launch price could attract motorists considering a switch from conventional petrol-powered vehicles to fully electric driving.
However, buyers will also need to consider factors such as charging accessibility, real-world battery performance, after-sales support, warranty coverage and long-term resale value before making a purchase.
With more Chinese manufacturers introducing electric SUVs into Singapore, competition is increasingly shifting beyond battery range and pricing towards technology, comfort, reliability and ownership experience.
The Changan Q05 adds another contender to that battle, giving Singaporean motorists another electric SUV option as the country’s automotive market continues its transition towards electrification.
