Lim Chu Kang Crash: Lorry Allegedly Crossed Double-White Lines While Overtaking, Hitting Motorcycle

Three people were injured after a collision involving two lorries and a motorcycle along Neo Tiew Road in Lim Chu Kang on Monday morning (Oct. 5), with dashcam footage appearing to show one lorry travelling against the flow of traffic while attempting to overtake.

The accident occurred at around 7.45am, according to the Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). A 38-year-old male motorcyclist, a 55-year-old male lorry driver and a 51-year-old male lorry passenger were taken to hospital while conscious.

Lorry Seen Overtaking Near Bend

Dashcam footage shared with Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News and reported by AsiaOne shows a 10ft lorry moving into the opposite lane as it attempted to overtake a lorry crane and motorcycle.

The manoeuvre took place near a bend on Neo Tiew Road where double-white lines were visible. A motorcycle can then be seen approaching from the opposite direction.

The lorry subsequently collided head-on with the motorcycle. The force of the impact sent the motorcycle into the side of the passing lorry crane, while the 10ft lorry overturned onto its side.

The footage does not by itself establish the full circumstances or legal responsibility for the collision, and police investigations are ongoing.

Motorcycle Severely Damaged

Images taken after the crash showed extensive damage to the motorcycle, with its rear section separated from the main body.

Debris and broken vehicle parts were scattered across the road, while stains believed to be from the collision were also visible at the scene, according to reports from Shin Min Daily News.

The motorcyclist, the lorry driver and the lorry passenger were all conveyed to hospital while conscious.

AsiaOne reported that the motorcyclist was in serious condition. The lorry driver is assisting police with investigations and is believed to be a migrant worker employed by a local company.

No further update on the injured parties’ conditions was immediately available.

Investigation Into Crash Continues

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing. At this stage, no charge or finding of criminal liability has been reported against the lorry driver.

The incident comes amid broader concerns over motorcycle safety on Singapore’s roads.

Traffic Police figures released in August showed that the number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries increased from 3,748 in the first half of 2025 to 3,869 during the same period in 2026. The number of people injured also rose from 4,894 to 5,090.

Motorcyclists and pillion riders accounted for 55.6 per cent of all traffic accidents during the first six months of 2026. There were 2,186 accidents involving motorcyclists and pillion riders, up from 2,096 in the corresponding period in 2025. Injuries in such accidents also increased from 2,335 to 2,470.

While the overall number of road fatalities fell from 79 in the first half of 2025 to 61 in the first half of 2026, motorcyclists and pillion riders remained the largest group involved in fatal crashes, accounting for 45.9 per cent of all road deaths during the period.

The Neo Tiew Road collision remains under investigation, with police expected to establish how the vehicles were positioned and the circumstances surrounding the attempted overtaking manoeuvre.
