TAICHUNG, Taiwan — Thailand’s Poom Saksansin surged to the top of the leaderboard with a stunning 9-under-par 63, while Filipino golfer Justin Bisera remained within striking distance after the opening round of the Taichung Golf and Country Club Championship.
Saksansin produced a bogey-free round featuring nine birdies to establish a one-shot advantage, immediately putting himself in contention in the Asian Development Tour event.
The Thai star made his move early and maintained his momentum throughout the round, converting opportunities on the greens while avoiding costly mistakes.
Bisera, meanwhile, opened with a 2-under-par 70 to sit seven shots behind the leader. Although the Filipino was unable to match Saksansin’s blistering pace, his opening-round score kept him positioned to make a move as the tournament progresses.
The Taichung Golf and Country Club course provided a stern test, making accuracy off the tee and strong putting particularly important. With several rounds still to play, the leaderboard remained capable of changing dramatically.
Saksansin’s 63, however, gave him an early advantage and established the benchmark for the chasing field.
For Bisera, the challenge now is to close the gap during the succeeding rounds and remain within reach of the leaders.
With the tournament still in its early stages, the seven-shot difference is significant but far from decisive. The bigger question is whether Bisera can find another gear before the leaders pull further away.
