TWICE’s Nayeon is showing why personal style does not have to fit into just one fashion category.
As the K-pop star celebrates her birthday on Sept. 22, her evolving wardrobe has become a showcase of different fashion movements — from coquette and cottagecore to Y2K streetwear, tenniscore and military-inspired tailoring. Rather than sticking to a single aesthetic, Nayeon repeatedly reshapes familiar trends around her own personality.
One of her standout recent looks came at a Byredo event in Seoul, where she wore an ivory pleated chiffon mini dress featuring a sculptural bubble hem. The strapless silhouette and floating volume gave the look a modern, polished feel, while minimal jewellery and a low ponytail kept attention on the dress itself.
For a very different mood, Nayeon embraced the return of Y2K-inspired indie streetwear backstage at The Tonight Show. She paired a glossy black bandeau-style top with an oversized hoodie, adding layered silver chains and a sleek ponytail to create a sharper contrast between fitted and oversized pieces.
Her softer side appeared in an emerald-and-white gingham babydoll dress worn for a FitFlop event. The voluminous silhouette, bow detail and green check pattern created a playful retro look, while her high ballerina-style bun balanced the proportions.
Nayeon has also experimented with the boudoir-inspired trend of turning sleepwear elements into everyday fashion. A striped poplin shirt layered over a lace-trimmed camisole slip dress created a relaxed look with a deliberately romantic edge.
For TWICE’s This Is For world tour, she leaned further into vintage coquette styling. A rose-print sundress with eyelet lace was paired with a thick braid and pink satin ribbon, giving the look a distinctly nostalgic and feminine character.
Her stage wardrobe takes the experimentation in another direction. One white-and-navy ensemble combines sailor references, corset detailing and structured shorts, creating a performance look that borrows from military-inspired tailoring without appearing strictly uniform.
Nayeon has even revisited 1980s glamour, wearing a pink lurex shrug with voluminous spiral curls. The combination of shimmer, dramatic hair and colourful makeup gives the nostalgic aesthetic a distinctly K-pop interpretation.
Another recurring feature of her wardrobe is contrast. In one look, a soft, draped pink off-shoulder top is paired with wide-leg khaki utility trousers, bringing traditionally feminine and masculine elements together in the same outfit.
Even minimalist dressing gets a Nayeon treatment. Her all-white tennis-inspired ensemble, featuring a halter top and pleated skirt, creates a clean silhouette that allows her beauty styling and red lip to become the focal point.
Across these looks, the common thread is not a particular colour, silhouette or fashion era. It is Nayeon’s willingness to move between aesthetics while maintaining a recognisable sense of playfulness.
From bubble hems and gingham to oversized streetwear, coquette ribbons and sporty tailoring, her wardrobe shows how K-pop fashion can borrow from multiple micro-trends without becoming confined by any one of them.
