Planning to visit a favourite hawker centre this week? Several popular food spots across Singapore will temporarily shut their doors as part of scheduled cleaning and maintenance works.
A total of 15 hawker centres will close for between one and three days from Sept. 21 to Sept. 27, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA). The regular closures are carried out to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at Singapore’s markets and hawker centres.
Among the affected locations is Tekka Centre in Little India, which will be closed on Sept. 21 and 22. Other well-known centres affected include Holland Village Market and Food Centre, Jurong West Hawker Centre and Whampoa Drive Makan Place.

The temporary closures are part of Singapore’s broader system of regular hawker-centre maintenance. NEA’s official 2026 closure data covers 123 markets and hawker centres, with cleaning scheduled throughout the year. For centres owned by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, cleaning is carried out by NEA, while HDB-owned centres are handled by the respective town councils.
Two other locations are also undergoing longer-term repairs and redecoration. Kim Keat Palm Market and Food Centre at Toa Payoh Lorong 7 is scheduled for works until Dec. 13, while Blk 726 Clementi West Street 2 is scheduled for works until Dec. 27.
For hawker lovers, the closures mean a temporary change of plans — but for the centres themselves, the scheduled work is part of keeping one of Singapore’s most important everyday food institutions clean and operational.
