Thailand’s national equestrian teams are preparing to compete in dressage and eventing at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, with riders aiming to deliver their strongest performances against some of Asia’s leading competitors.
The Thai delegation has been preparing extensively for the continental competition, with both riders and horses undergoing training and preparations aimed at reaching peak condition for the Games.
Thailand will compete in dressage and eventing, two disciplines requiring close coordination between horse and rider. The results depend not only on the athletes’ preparation but also on the condition, fitness and welfare of their horses.
Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya is among Thailand’s dressage competitors. She has continued her preparations for the Asian Games and completed a physical fitness assessment in the United Kingdom in August as part of the country’s preparations.
The princess has competed internationally in dressage and has been involved in efforts to develop equestrian sport in Thailand.
Thai riders have also gained valuable experience through international competitions held at home and abroad. Events such as the Princess’s Cup Thailand have provided opportunities for local athletes to compete against international riders and improve their preparation for major championships.
Thailand’s equestrian programme has expanded in recent years, with greater emphasis on developing riders, trainers, grooms and other specialists involved in the sport.
The Asian Games will provide another important test for the country’s riders. Competition in dressage will require athletes to demonstrate precision, control and harmony with their horses, while eventing combines dressage, cross-country and show jumping.
The demanding nature of eventing means preparation must account for both technical performance and the physical condition of the horses.
The Thai team is expected to face strong competition from established equestrian nations across Asia. Riders will therefore focus on executing their routines consistently while managing the pressures of a major multi-sport event.
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will run from Sept 19 to Oct 4, bringing together athletes from across the continent in 43 sports.
For Thailand’s equestrian riders, the competition represents an opportunity to showcase the progress of the country’s programme and gain further experience at the highest level of Asian competition.
With extensive preparation behind them, the Thai teams are now focused on delivering their best performances when competition begins in Japan.
