Philippine tennis star Alexandra Eala is set to return to the Hong Kong Tennis Open, where she will headline a strong field at the WTA 250 tournament later this year.
Eala, currently ranked No. 18 in the world, is among four leading players announced for the tournament at Victoria Park. She will be joined by China’s top-ranked player Wang Xinyu, former world No. 2 Paula Badosa of Spain and Russia’s Diana Shnaider, who is ranked No. 13.
The tournament is scheduled to run from October 31 to November 8, with a 32-player singles draw and total prize money of more than US$280,000.
Eala enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2026, winning her first WTA Tour singles title at the Washington Open and reaching a career-high ranking of 18th. She has also established herself as one of the leading young players on the women’s tour.
The 21-year-old also competed in Hong Kong last year. She defeated Britain’s Katie Boulter in the opening round before losing to eventual champion Victoria Mboko of Canada in the next round.
Eala said she was looking forward to returning to Hong Kong as part of her Asian swing and thanked fans in the region for their support.
The tournament will also feature local players. Hong Kong’s Eudice Chong is expected to return to the doubles competition, while Adithya Karunaratne and Yandy Shek have received wildcards for the singles draw.
Organisers said the tournament would help strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a destination for major international sporting events while giving local players an opportunity to compete alongside some of the world’s top tennis talent.
