Iconic Mon Bridge Rafts in Kanchanaburi Get a Facelift

Authorities in Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi are reorganising the floating rafts around the iconic Mon Bridge as part of efforts to improve the area’s appearance, safety and management.

The initiative follows a multi-agency inspection of the raft businesses operating around the popular tourist landmark, which attracts large numbers of visitors throughout the year.

Officials are reviewing the arrangement of the floating structures and their use of the waterways around the bridge. The aim is to create a more orderly environment while preserving the area’s distinctive character.

The Mon Bridge, officially known as Uttamanusorn Bridge, is one of Sangkhla Buri’s best-known landmarks. The wooden footbridge stretches across the Songaria River and connects the Thai community with the Mon village of Wang Kha.

The surrounding waterways are also an important part of the local tourism economy. Floating rafts offer visitors places to relax, eat and enjoy views of the bridge and surrounding landscape.
