A 44-year-old man is set to be charged with vandalism after allegedly throwing a rock at the glass entrance door of Singapore’s Police Cantonment Complex, causing it to shatter.
The incident happened at about 10.55pm on Sept. 15, according to the Singapore Police Force. The man was arrested at the scene by responding officers.
Rock thrown at police complex entrance
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the man, who was believed to be intoxicated at the time, threw a rock weighing almost half a kilogramme at the glass door of the complex’s main entrance.
The same rock was allegedly thrown twice, causing the door to shatter.
The rock was subsequently seized by police as a case exhibit.
Photographs released by the police showed the glass door covered in extensive spiderweb-like cracks following the incident.
Despite the damage, the shattered glass appeared to remain within its frame.
Man to face vandalism charge
The man is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 17 and will be charged with vandalism.
If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$2,000, and caning of between three and eight strokes, according to police.
The charge remains an allegation until it is dealt with by the court.
Incident occurred at Police Cantonment Complex
Police Cantonment Complex houses several Singapore Police Force units and is located along Outram Road.
The incident did not result in any reported injuries in the police statement. The main reported consequence was damage to the complex’s glass entrance door.
Police have not publicly disclosed a motive for the alleged act.
