Hougang Bus Dispute Over Wheelchair Bay Goes Viral, Plus Other Top Stories

A heated dispute between an elderly passenger and another woman on a public bus in Hougang has drawn attention online after footage of the confrontation was shared on social media.

The incident reportedly took place near Hougang Polyclinic. In the video, a woman in a black shirt is seen standing in the wheelchair bay while arguing with an elderly passenger who is seated nearby.

The younger woman accused the elderly passenger of stepping on her foot and questioned why the available space was supposedly insufficient.

The elderly passenger responded by asking where she was supposed to sit, later insisting that she needed the seat because she could fall if she remained standing.

The argument continued as other commuters looked on. A bus driver eventually intervened and told the two women to stop arguing, although the disagreement resumed briefly.

The footage, shared on TikTok on Sept 8, attracted widespread attention, with commenters urging commuters to remain calm and considerate when sharing limited space on public transport.

The incident was one of several stories making headlines in Singapore.

Former actor Haden Hee Lic-Kai is set to stand trial in October over six charges involving alleged fraud and forgery connected to his Korean food products business.

Elsewhere, a Filipino degree holder working as a domestic helper in Singapore shared her experience of entering domestic work despite having a university degree, sparking discussion about career expectations and the realities faced by migrant workers.

Another story involved a mother who said she was upset after a stranger allegedly offered her toddler a partially eaten steamed bun while they were travelling on an MRT train.

The incidents have prompted online discussions ranging from public transport etiquette and personal boundaries to work, family and everyday interactions in Singapore.
