Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has made it clear that if he eventually marries longtime partner Chloe San Jose, he wants their wedding to be an intimate celebration centered on the two of them—and that could mean his parents will not be invited.
The revelation came during Carlos and Chloe’s recent interview with broadcaster Karen Davila, where the couple was asked directly whether Carlos would want his parents, Mark Andrew and Angelica Yulo, present at their future wedding.
Carlos’ answer was straightforward: he would rather keep the wedding between himself and Chloe.
The Olympic champion explained that he does not want unresolved family issues to overshadow what he considers one of the most important moments of his life.
He said he has already forgiven his parents for things that happened in the past, but added that, for him, there is a limit to what reconciliation means.
In essence, forgiveness does not necessarily mean bringing the relationship back to what it once was.
Carlos said he wants his wedding to be filled with “love and joy” and does not want anything to “mamantsahan” or negatively affect the moment he and Chloe are supposed to share.
Chloe stands behind Carlos’ decision
Chloe, meanwhile, said she would respect whatever Carlos is comfortable with.
She emphasized that the wedding would ultimately be about the couple and that, whether his parents are present or not, she intends to keep her attention on Carlos.
Her position is consistent with comments the couple made months earlier when they discussed whether they would need their families’ blessing before getting married.
During their March 2026 interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Carlos and Chloe said they did not consider a family blessing necessary before tying the knot. Carlos said what matters is that the two of them understand each other, while Chloe said involving too many people could make the situation more complicated.
Carlos says he has already forgiven his parents
The latest revelation is particularly significant because Carlos has previously spoken about trying to move forward from the conflict with his parents.
In his March interview with Boy Abunda, Carlos said he had done his part in attempting to communicate with his parents and said he had forgiven them.
He also stressed that he did not harbor hatred or resentment toward them. At the same time, he acknowledged that he could not control how the relationship would ultimately develop.
That distinction appears to remain important in his latest comments.
Carlos can forgive his parents while still establishing boundaries around his personal life—and particularly around his future marriage.
His relationship with his siblings is different
Despite the continuing strain with his parents, reports indicate that Carlos maintains a relationship with his younger siblings, particularly fellow gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo and their sister Elaiza Yulo.
Chloe previously said she had encouraged Carlos to maintain ties with his siblings even during the height of the family controversy. She described their relationship with the siblings as good.
The family situation has remained a subject of public attention since the controversy surrounding Carlos’ relationship with his parents became highly publicized following his historic two-gold-medal performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
More recently, the absence of Carlos’ parents at a house blessing involving his siblings also drew attention from netizens, although social-media observations should not be treated as proof of the private state of the family’s relationships.
No wedding date has been confirmed
Importantly, Carlos’ latest comments do not mean that a wedding has already been scheduled.
The couple has previously talked publicly about marriage and their future together, but the latest interview centers on what Carlos would want if and when they get married.
Reports from earlier interviews have also documented that the couple has been together for several years and has openly discussed marriage.
For now, the most notable takeaway is not a confirmed wedding date—but Carlos’ increasingly clear position about who he wants beside him when that day eventually comes.
And that decision could keep the Yulo family story in the spotlight.
