Carlos Yulo Drops Wedding Bombshell: ‘Mas Pipiliin Kong Kami Na Lang’—But Who Won’t Be Invited?

MANILA — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has opened up about his plans for a possible future wedding with longtime partner Chloe San Jose, making it clear that he wants their special day to remain centered on their relationship.

In a recent interview with Karen Davila, Yulo was asked whether he would want his parents, Angelica and Mark Andrew Yulo, to attend if he and San Jose eventually get married.

His answer was direct.

Kasal po namin ’yun and relationship po namin ’yun and mas pipiliin kong kami na lang,” Yulo said, explaining that he would rather keep the occasion focused on himself and Chloe.

He added that he did not want past family issues to overshadow what should be a joyful milestone.

Ayaw ko din masira ’yung moment namin para sa amin dapat dalawa,” Yulo said, adding that he did not want the occasion “mamantsahan” by problems that he had already chosen to forgive.

Yulo also stressed that forgiveness does not necessarily mean that every aspect of a relationship automatically returns to the way it was before.

Marami na din silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na. And hanggang dun na lang din po,” he said.

The Olympic champion said that, if the wedding eventually happens, he wants it to be filled with love and happiness.

Gusto ko sa amin lang po ’yun and I really wanted to be really full of love and joy kapag nangyari po ’yun,” he added.

Chloe respects Carlos’ decision

San Jose, meanwhile, has indicated that she respects Yulo’s position regarding his family and their future together.

The couple’s latest comments are consistent with remarks they made earlier this year during their appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.

When asked in March whether getting their families’ blessing was important before marriage, both gave a negative response.

Yulo emphasized that what matters most is that he and San Jose understand each other, while San Jose said having too many people involved could make their marriage plans complicated.

She described having the right people around them as creating a “safe space” for their relationship.

Marriage has been on their radar for years

Yulo and San Jose’s marriage plans are not entirely new.

In October 2024, Yulo told The Philippine Star that he and San Jose wanted to get married the following year. At the time, he also recalled how their relationship began online before they eventually met in person at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam.

In their March 2026 interview, Yulo revealed another detail about their marriage plans: he had actually attempted to buy an engagement ring in Japan and Singapore in 2023.

However, the surprise did not go as planned after San Jose saw an email notification concerning a ring reservation.

San Jose explained that because they were open with each other, she chose to tell him rather than pretend she had not discovered the planned surprise. Yulo said he still intends to get the ring when the timing is right.

Their relationship has faced intense public scrutiny

Yulo and San Jose’s relationship has remained under intense public attention, particularly since the gymnast’s historic performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yulo won two gold medals in Paris, becoming the first Filipino athlete to capture two golds in a single Olympic Games. His extraordinary achievement, however, was accompanied by renewed public attention on his strained relationship with his parents.

In 2024, Yulo publicly acknowledged that there had been mistakes on his part and said he had forgiven his family. He also said he wanted to focus on himself, his relationship with Chloe and his gymnastics career.

By March 2026, Yulo again said he had no anger toward his parents and had already forgiven them, although reconciliation remained unresolved. San Jose also said she had encouraged Yulo to maintain his relationship with his siblings.

That distinction is important: Yulo’s latest comments concern his preferred wedding guest list, not an announcement that he has permanently rejected reconciliation with his family.

Chloe remains a major part of Yulo’s life

Despite the controversies surrounding them, Yulo and San Jose have continued their relationship.

In March, Yulo publicly celebrated San Jose’s birthday with a heartfelt message, calling her his “best cheerleader” and expressing pride in her studies, work and support for his career.

The couple has also previously spoken about building their future according to their own priorities rather than outside expectations.

For now, there is no confirmed wedding date announced in the latest reports. What Yulo has made clear is that if the day comes, he wants it to be intimate, joyful and focused on the relationship he shares with Chloe.

And that decision could keep the Yulo family story in the spotlight—especially because the question of who will be present on their biggest day remains far from ordinary.
