SAN CARLOS CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — A 46-year-old man has died after he was allegedly attacked by three male individuals along C.L. Ledesma Avenue in Barangay 2, San Carlos City, in an incident that police are continuing to investigate.
The victim, identified by authorities only as alias “Wendell,” was reportedly walking along the road at around 6:30 p.m. on September 5 when three men allegedly approached and assaulted him.
According to the police account cited by Panay News, a witness identified as alias “Johnson,” a crew member of a nearby Crispy King establishment, saw the alleged attack. The witness reportedly described the assault as apparently unprovoked.
Victim suffered fatal head injury
During the alleged assault, Wendell fell onto the cemented road and suffered a serious head injury, causing him to lose consciousness.
Personnel from the San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) responded and brought him to San Carlos City Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite medical intervention, the victim was later declared dead by the attending physician.
Negros Now Daily independently reported the same basic circumstances, including the victim’s age, the September 5 incident, the location, and his subsequent death at the hospital. It also reported that hospital personnel notified police, prompting follow-up operations.
Three men allegedly involved
Police identified two of the individuals allegedly involved as alias “Ramram,” 26, and alias “Antonio,” who is a minor. A third alleged participant remains unidentified.
The suspects reportedly fled the area following the assault.
Authorities are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and determine the whereabouts of the individuals allegedly involved.
Because one of the alleged suspects is a minor, his identity should not be publicly disclosed in accordance with child-protection safeguards.
Investigation continues
Police have yet to establish a definitive motive for the alleged attack. The account that the assault appeared to be unprovoked comes from the witness cited in the police investigation and should therefore not be treated as a final determination of motive.
Authorities are expected to continue gathering witness accounts and other evidence as they work toward identifying the remaining suspect and determining what charges may be appropriate.
At this stage, the allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Why this case is drawing attention
The incident comes amid other recent reports of violent incidents in San Carlos City. In June, authorities and local officials called for stronger community and school-safety measures following a separate stabbing incident involving minors. The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region stressed the importance of early intervention, parental guidance and community involvement in preventing violence.
The latest case, however, is separate from that earlier stabbing incident and involves an adult victim who died after the alleged assault.
For now, the central questions remain: What triggered the confrontation, who was responsible for the fatal assault, and will police be able to locate all three alleged attackers?
