TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur — A three-year-old boy is dead after he was allegedly stabbed inside his family’s home in Barangay Lacong, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, prompting the provincial police to condemn the killing and launch a continued effort to locate the boy’s father, who is being treated as the primary suspect.
The incident happened on Friday, August 28, according to police reports cited by the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Philstar.
The suspect is the victim’s 29-year-old father, who reportedly fled after the incident. Police have not publicly established the motive behind the killing, and the case remains under investigation.
Grandmother heard child being berated
According to initial police information, the boy’s grandmother and aunt heard the father allegedly berating the child at around 1 a.m. on the day of the incident.
Several hours later, at about 11 a.m., the grandmother became concerned after noticing that the boy had not come out of the room.
She entered the room and found the child wrapped in a blanket. Upon uncovering him, she discovered that he had suffered a stab wound to the chest.
The child was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Father reportedly fled after incident
Police said the alleged suspect left the residence following the incident.
An earlier Inquirer report said authorities were continuing efforts to locate and arrest him, while the alleged weapon had not been recovered from the crime scene at the time of the initial report.
The exact circumstances leading to the child’s death, including the motive behind the alleged attack, have yet to be established by investigators.
Ilocos Sur police condemn killing
The Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) has condemned the killing, describing the death of the child as deeply disturbing and heartbreaking.
In a statement issued on August 30, the police office said the death of a child demands justice and accountability and assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
The Tagudin Municipal Police Station was directed to pursue available leads, gather evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Police units were likewise ordered to make every necessary effort to locate the suspect.
Authorities also emphasized that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with due process and the rule of law.
Police appeal for information
The ISPPO urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide authorities with information that could help locate the suspect or clarify what happened inside the home.
As of the latest available reports, authorities had not publicly disclosed a confirmed motive or announced an arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing.
