Thea Astley Denies Being Elijah Canlas’ ‘Third Party’ After Viral La Union Video — But One Big Question About Miles Ocampo Remains

A seemingly ordinary trip to a La Union public market to buy ingredients for pinakbet spiraled into weeks of relationship speculation involving Thea Astley, Elijah Canlas and Miles Ocampo. Now, Astley is breaking her silence—and she is making one thing unmistakably clear.

What was supposed to be a simple market run has turned into one of the more talked-about Philippine showbiz controversies of the month.

Kapuso singer-actress Thea Astley has publicly addressed the viral video showing her with award-winning actor Elijah Canlas in a public market in La Union, denying allegations that she cheated or became involved as a third party in somebody else’s relationship.

Speaking on “TRGGRD!”, Astley explained that she and Canlas were simply shopping for vegetables and ingredients for pinakbet when they were recorded.

The clip eventually circulated widely on social media, with screenshots and short portions fueling speculation about whether the longtime friends were romantically involved.

But Astley says the online interpretation was far removed from what actually happened.

According to GMA News, Astley said the video was “taken out of context” and stressed that she and Canlas have been friends for years.

She then made her strongest statement yet about the accusations:

“I’ve never cheated on anyone. I’ve never been the third party in any relationship to my knowledge.”

The Viral Video That Started the Speculation

The controversy began after footage of Astley and Canlas walking through a public market surfaced online in early August.

An earlier GMA Entertainment report said the video showed Astley browsing vegetable stalls while Canlas was seen holding her arm as they walked through the market.

The sighting quickly triggered speculation among netizens about the true nature of their relationship. Canlas later shared an Instagram Story showing Astley together with other companions, indicating that they were not necessarily traveling alone.

Astley now says still images pulled from the video made the interaction look different from what happened in context.

She explained that screenshots could make viewers think Canlas was holding her hand, contributing to assumptions that something romantic was happening between them.

Her position is straightforward: they are friends, and the viral footage does not prove otherwise.

Why Miles Ocampo Became Part of the Story

The controversy became much bigger because of Canlas’ long and highly publicized relationship history with actress and television host Miles Ocampo.

Canlas and Ocampo publicly confirmed their relationship in May 2022, after reportedly beginning their romance earlier.

They eventually separated in 2023, with Canlas confirming in November that year that they had broken up months earlier.

Despite the split, he said at the time that he continued to love and support Ocampo.

But their story didn’t end there.

By early 2024, there were signs of reconciliation.

In March 2024, Ocampo acknowledged that she and Canlas were attempting to repair their relationship, telling reporters that they were “working on it.” Canlas later said they were doing well and were taking things slowly.

The reconciliation appeared increasingly serious.

In May 2025, PEP.ph reported that Ocampo described herself and Canlas as being in a four-year relationship and revealed that they had even discussed marriage.

Ocampo said they would not have reconciled if they did not continue choosing and loving each other.

That history explains why the La Union video immediately drew attention from fans invested in the Elijah-Miles relationship.

But Are Elijah Canlas and Miles Ocampo Still Together?

That’s the biggest unanswered question surrounding the controversy.

Reports emerged in August 2026 alleging that Canlas and Ocampo had separated again. SunStar reported claims attributed to showbiz commentator Ogie Diaz that a source said the couple had broken up roughly two months earlier.

However, that claim has not been publicly confirmed on the record by either Canlas or Ocampo, making it important to distinguish the reported breakup from an established fact.

Manila Bulletin similarly reported that neither actor had confirmed nor denied the alleged split.

When Canlas was recently asked about his personal life, he acknowledged that he was going through a difficult period but stopped short of explaining whether it involved Ocampo.

“I’m okay but it’s not the happiest moment of my life,” he said, adding that he was focusing on work and the people around him.

PEP.ph also reported Canlas saying he was not currently at his happiest while keeping himself busy with professional projects.

Crucially, neither statement amounts to confirmation of a breakup.

Thea Astley Says She Would Never Come Between a Couple

Astley said she understands why supporters of Canlas and Ocampo became emotionally invested in the issue.

Both actors have grown up in the public eye, and fans have watched their relationship develop, end and apparently restart over several years.

Astley acknowledged that some supporters may therefore have viewed her appearance beside Canlas as a possible threat to that relationship.

But she strongly rejected that characterization.

Astley said she would never knowingly place herself between two people in a relationship and emphasized that she understands how painful such a situation can be.

The issue also became emotional for her because of the personal attacks that followed.

Astley revealed that she had been called insulting names online, including accusations that she was a mistress or deliberately flirting with someone else’s partner.

She said those comments hurt not just her but also her parents, who had seen what people were saying about their daughter.

Initially, Astley said she considered remaining silent and allowing the controversy to die naturally.

Eventually, however, she concluded that there are moments when speaking publicly becomes necessary.

Her message to social-media users was simple: people should be careful about turning assumptions into accusations when they do not know the complete story.

What Is Actually Confirmed?

As of August 30, 2026, several points can be separated from the rumors.

Thea Astley and Elijah Canlas were indeed seen together at a public market in La Union.

Astley says they were shopping for ingredients for pinakbet and were traveling as friends.

She categorically denies cheating or knowingly becoming a third party.

Canlas and Ocampo previously broke up in 2023, later worked toward reconciliation in 2024, and were publicly described as being together again by 2025.

What has not been publicly established is exactly when—or whether—the couple separated again in 2026.

Neither Canlas nor Ocampo has given a definitive public confirmation addressing the latest breakup reports.

And that distinction matters.

A viral clip can show two people walking through a market.

It cannot, by itself, establish the status of somebody else’s relationship—or prove cheating.

For now, Astley has put her version of events firmly on the record.

Whether Elijah Canlas or Miles Ocampo will eventually address the bigger question surrounding their relationship remains to be seen.
