Taylor Sheridan has turned the modern American West into one of television’s most recognizable storytelling worlds.
What began with Yellowstone in 2018 has grown into a sprawling collection of ranch dramas, historical Westerns, crime thrillers, prison stories, oil-industry dramas and espionage series. By 2026, Sheridan’s television slate has expanded again with Dutton Ranch and Marshals, while The Madison adds another, more family-focused take on his signature Montana setting.
But calling everything a “Yellowstone spinoff” would be misleading.
Several of Sheridan’s biggest shows—including Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King and Lioness—exist in completely separate fictional worlds.
So, if you’re trying to navigate Sheridan’s increasingly massive catalogue, here is the current lineup.
1. Yellowstone — Where It All Started
The flagship series follows John Dutton III and his family as they fight to protect their enormous Montana ranch from developers, politicians, business interests and competing claims to the land.
Starring Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley and Cole Hauser, the series became the foundation for Sheridan’s television empire.
It also established the recurring themes that define much of his work: land, family, power, loyalty, money and survival.
The original series ran from 2018 to 2024, but its universe is far from finished.
2. 1883 — The Brutal Beginning of the Dutton Story
If Yellowstone shows the modern Dutton family, 1883 goes back to their roots.
The series follows James and Margaret Dutton, played by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, as they travel west with their family after the American Civil War.
The journey is anything but romantic.
Disease, violence, hunger, extreme weather and dangerous terrain turn the westward journey into a brutal fight for survival.
The series provides the earliest major chapter in the Dutton television saga and connects directly to Yellowstone through the family’s history.
3. 1923 — Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren Take Over
Set decades after 1883, 1923 follows another generation of Duttons as they struggle to protect their Montana ranch during an era marked by economic hardship, drought, political conflict and violence.
Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton, while Helen Mirren stars as his wife Cara.
The series expands the Dutton story beyond Montana, following Spencer Dutton through Africa and Europe before his attempt to return home.
With two seasons completed, 1923 has become one of the most prominent chapters in the franchise.
4. Dutton Ranch — The Story Moves Beyond Yellowstone
One of the biggest developments of 2026 is Dutton Ranch, which continues the story of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler after Yellowstone.
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser return as the married couple, who leave Montana and attempt to establish a new life in South Texas.
The move, however, doesn’t mean the Dutton conflicts are over.
The series was renewed for a second season after its first run, keeping the Yellowstone universe alive in a new location.
5. Marshals — Kayce Dutton Takes a New Job
Another 2026 expansion is Marshals, which follows Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton after the events of Yellowstone.
Instead of continuing as a rancher, Kayce joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit operating in Montana.
The show moves the franchise closer to a crime-procedural format while maintaining connections to characters and communities from Yellowstone.
That makes Marshals one of the most direct bridges between the original series and Sheridan’s newer television era.
6. Landman — Forget Cowboys, Enter the Oil Fields
Landman takes Sheridan’s fascination with wealth, power and the American West into the West Texas oil industry.
Billy Bob Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, a landman caught between oil executives, investors and workers operating dangerous drilling sites.
Unlike Yellowstone, Landman is not part of the Dutton universe.
The series is based on the podcast Boomtown and explores how the oil business affects workers, families, communities and the broader economy.
The show has already been renewed for a third season.
7. Mayor of Kingstown — Sheridan’s Darkest Crime Drama
Set in the fictional Michigan city of Kingstown, the series revolves around a community where prisons dominate the local economy.
Jeremy Renner plays Mike McLusky, a man who operates between prisoners, law enforcement, politicians, gangs and prison officials.
Unlike the Dutton shows, this is a completely separate universe.
Its focus is less on ranches and more on incarceration, corruption, violence and power. Paramount+ has announced that its fifth season will be its final season.
8. Tulsa King — Sylvester Stallone Meets the Modern West
Sheridan also put his own spin on the gangster genre with Tulsa King.
Sylvester Stallone plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a New York mafia capo released after 25 years in prison and sent to Oklahoma to establish a new criminal operation.
The result is a strange but highly entertaining collision between old-school organised crime and contemporary Oklahoma.
The series has been renewed for a fourth season.
9. The Madison — A Different Side of Sheridan
Then there’s The Madison, Sheridan’s 2026 drama starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell.
The six-episode first season follows the Clyburn family as they relocate from New York to Montana following a devastating tragedy.
Unlike the explosive ranch warfare of Yellowstone, The Madison focuses much more heavily on grief, family relationships and emotional survival.
It is also a standalone story rather than another Dutton chapter.
The series has been renewed for additional seasons.
10. Lioness — Sheridan Goes Full Espionage
Sheridan’s catalogue isn’t limited to the American West.
Lioness is a contemporary CIA thriller inspired by a real U.S. military programme.
Zoe Saldaña plays Joe, who manages female operatives involved in dangerous intelligence missions.
Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman are also part of the ensemble.
Season 3 premiered in August 2026, making Lioness one of Sheridan’s active franchises this year.
And unlike Yellowstone, Lioness has no narrative connection to the Dutton universe.
So, which Sheridan show should you watch first?
If you’re new to Sheridan, the safest entry point remains Yellowstone because it established the storytelling style and franchise that shaped much of his television career.
For a historical Western, try 1883.
For a sprawling historical drama, choose 1923.
For crime and prison politics, go with Mayor of Kingstown.
For something lighter and more eccentric, there’s Tulsa King.
For oil, money and Texas power struggles, Landman is the obvious choice.
And if you want the newest developments in the Yellowstone universe, Dutton Ranch and Marshals are now the major destinations.
The bigger story behind Sheridan’s television empire
What’s remarkable isn’t simply the number of shows.
It’s how Sheridan has turned a relatively specific set of themes—land, loyalty, family, violence, wealth, ambition and survival—into stories that can work across ranches, oil fields, prisons, organised crime and international espionage.
And his expansion isn’t slowing down.
Sheridan signed a reported long-term film and television deal with NBCUniversal worth up to $1 billion, while continuing to have projects tied to Paramount.
Meanwhile, his existing television universe continues expanding, meaning Yellowstone may ultimately be remembered not simply as a hit Western—but as the show that launched one of television’s largest modern storytelling empires.
