South Korean singer-actor Hwang Min-hyun gave fans plenty to talk about during his long-awaited return to Singapore—dropping fresh hints about the upcoming Study Group Season 2 while remaining intriguingly tight-lipped about what could be next for Wanna One.
The 31-year-old star met fans at Lenskart’s Frame Your Style showcase at Junction 8 on Aug 22, marking his return to Singapore after seven years. But beyond the fashion and fan interactions, Min-hyun’s comments about his acting comeback and recent reunion with his former Wanna One bandmates quickly became the biggest talking points.
‘Study Group 2’ Is Going Bigger
Min-hyun confirmed that fans can expect a more ambitious second season of the hit Korean drama Study Group, teasing larger-scale action than viewers saw in the first season.
He reprises his role as Yoon Ga-min, a student determined to succeed academically despite discovering that his real talent lies in fighting. According to Min-hyun, the new season will also explore a more personal side of Ga-min’s story, including the reasons behind his intense desire to study and the dilemmas he faces along the way.
The actor’s return to the role is particularly significant as Study Group Season 2 is among his major projects following his military discharge in December 2025. Earlier interviews with Korean media also pointed to Min-hyun’s excitement about the sequel’s expanded action and his desire to continue showing audiences different sides of himself as an actor.
While reports indicate filming has been completed and the drama is expected to arrive in 2026, viewers should wait for an official release announcement for a confirmed premiere date.
A Simple Question About Wanna One Got an Interesting Answer
However, it was a moment involving a fan’s sign that may have sent longtime K-pop fans into speculation mode.
During the Singapore event, a fan held up a message asking Min-hyun to wink if Wanna One would fully return and perform together again. Instead of giving a clear yes or no, he laughed, shrugged—and teased that it was “a secret.”
The timing could not be more interesting.
Wanna One members reunited earlier this year for the special variety programme Wanna One Go: Back to Base, reconnecting years after the group’s activities ended. The reunion reportedly brought back the same chemistry fans remembered, with Min-hyun himself previously describing how naturally the members slipped back into their old dynamic.
More recently, nine former members took the stage at KCON LA 2026, marking a major nostalgic moment for fans. Min-hyun said returning to the stage as a Wanna One member made him happy and brought back memories of the group’s earlier days, though he stopped short of confirming any future group plans.
For now, that means fans have a reason to hope—but no official full-scale Wanna One comeback has been confirmed.
From K-pop Star to Leading Actor—and Still Doing Both
Min-hyun’s career has taken him through multiple chapters of the Korean entertainment industry. He debuted with NU’EST in 2012, rose to wider international fame as a member of Wanna One after Produce 101 Season 2, and later launched his solo career with the mini-album Truth or Lie in 2023.
At the same time, he has built a growing acting résumé through dramas including Live On, Alchemy of Souls, My Lovely Liar and Study Group.
Speaking about balancing music and acting, Min-hyun has described the two as different forms of expression: music allows him to communicate more directly with audiences, while acting lets him step into lives and personalities beyond his everyday experience.
His Singapore appearance also revealed a lighter side of the star. With little time to explore the city during his packed schedule, Min-hyun said he was hoping to enjoy local food—particularly chilli crab—before leaving Singapore. He also shared his love for eyewear, saying he owns around 30 pairs and enjoys matching frames to his mood and daily style.
The Bottom Line
Hwang Min-hyun may not have revealed every secret fans wanted to hear, but his latest appearance delivered two clear messages: Study Group Season 2 is aiming higher, and his connection with Wanna One remains as meaningful as ever.
Whether that playful “it’s a secret” was simply a joke—or a hint that more could be coming—remains to be seen. For now, fans have a bigger K-drama sequel to anticipate and plenty of reason to keep watching what Min-hyun and his former bandmates do next.
