Singapore celebrity couple Felicia Chin and Jeffrey Xu are giving fans a more honest look at married life, revealing that even a relationship that appears happy and picture-perfect online comes with arguments, misunderstandings and difficult moments.
Chin, 41, recently opened up about the couple’s decision to publicly share one of their marital conflicts, saying they did not want followers to believe their relationship was perfect all the time.
“A lot of people might feel like we are always in love,” Chin told AsiaOne while promoting her new drama Brighter Days. But, she added, they wanted people to understand that “every day is” not like “rainbows.”
The argument they decided to share
The couple, who have been together for around a decade and married in October 2022, previously discussed one of their disagreements in a four-part episode of their talk show Trash Talk, posted on Instagram in July.
According to their account, the disagreement happened during a phone conversation while Xu was working overseas. After Xu said something that hurt her, Chin responded by telling him not to return home the following day and temporarily blocking him on WhatsApp.
But after spending a sleepless night reflecting and praying, Chin reconsidered.
She eventually messaged Xu and asked him to wait for her at the airport when he returned. She also arranged for his favourite durians.
Xu, meanwhile, had written his own thoughts in a journal and bought gifts for Chin as an apology.
When they finally met at the airport, Xu reportedly ran to embrace her. He later became emotional outside the airport, and the pair apologised to each other.
Why reveal something so personal?
For Chin, the decision was not simply about telling a dramatic celebrity relationship story.
She said the experience could serve as a learning opportunity for younger couples and help normalise the reality that disagreements are part of relationships.
The couple also wanted to show that conflict can happen even between partners who appear extremely close on social media.
Chin said they hoped sharing how they worked through their disagreement could help others understand that relationships require communication, reflection and effort.
They still draw a line around their private life
Despite becoming more open, Chin stressed that she and Xu still discuss what they are comfortable sharing publicly.
She explained that if either person feels something has gone too far, they can ask for it to be edited out. For the couple, openness also means respecting each other’s boundaries.
That balance appears to be particularly important as their public profile continues to grow.
Besides their talk show, the couple are now appearing together in Brighter Days, marking their first drama collaboration since getting married.
The Straits Times reported that although the pair are both in the 20-episode Channel 8 drama, they have only one scene together as a duo. Chin plays two characters, while Xu portrays Jiewei, the long-lost brother of Romeo Tan’s character.
From co-stars to husband and wife
Chin and Xu first met while working on the long-form drama Life – Fear Not and began dating in 2015. They later appeared together in other productions before marrying in 2022.
Their latest project brings another dimension to their relationship: they are now working together as a married couple.
Chin admitted that being on the same professional set initially felt strange because their relationship had changed significantly since they first worked together. After getting used to it, however, she said she enjoyed sharing scenes with her husband.
Their relationship has also evolved away from the cameras
The couple have increasingly turned their shared experiences into creative projects.
Their Trash Talk series, launched in July, explores topics and interests they share as a couple, including their experiences with relationships and everyday life. The Straits Times reported that they hope to develop the project further, potentially including longer-form videos and lifestyle merchandise.
And while fans may see their playful chemistry online, Chin’s latest comments offer a reminder that their relationship is not without challenges.
Instead of hiding those moments, the couple appear to be choosing a different approach: acknowledging that disagreements happen, learning from them and trying to come out stronger.
Their message is perhaps less about having a perfect marriage and more about refusing to give up when things become difficult.
Because behind the smiles, social-media posts and celebrity spotlight, even the couples who look happiest still have their hard days.
And for Felicia Chin and Jeffrey Xu, those difficult moments may have become part of what makes their relationship feel more real.
