TECNO Launches Ultra-Thin CAMON Slim 5G With Sony Camera and 6,000mAh Battery — But Its ₱27,999 Price Faces a Bigger Test

MANILA, Philippines — Smartphone brand TECNO is challenging the idea that an ultra-thin phone must sacrifice battery capacity, introducing the CAMON Slim 5G to the Philippine market with a 6.39-millimeter body, a 6,000mAh battery and Sony imaging technology.

Priced at ₱27,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model, the device is designed for consumers who prioritize photography, portability and everyday functionality.

Its main features include a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 700C camera, a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and a MediaTek Dimensity 7300e 5G processor.

TECNO is also promoting a companion accessory called the MagBadge, which allows users to preview their rear-camera shots and remotely control the shutter.

The launch marks another attempt by smartphone manufacturers to deliver premium-looking designs at prices below flagship devices.

But as consumers become more selective with their technology spending, a bigger question emerges: Can TECNO justify its nearly ₱28,000 price with real-world performance, or is the ultra-thin design its strongest selling point?

TECNO Brings CAMON Slim 5G to Philippine Stores

The TECNO CAMON Slim 5G officially debuted locally in early October 2026, with the company expanding retail availability during the month.

The smartphone is offered through participating TECNO stores and online platforms, including Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.

The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration carries a suggested retail price of ₱27,999.

TECNO also lists an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration at ₱24,999, available exclusively through TikTok Shop under its Philippine campaign.

That distinction matters because the ₱27,999 figure reported in the October 19 launch article applies to the larger-storage version, not necessarily every CAMON Slim 5G configuration.

The model competes in a crowded price segment where buyers can choose between design-focused handsets and devices that place greater emphasis on processor performance, cameras or battery endurance.

For TECNO, the strategy is to combine several attention-grabbing features into one relatively lightweight product.

A 6.39mm Smartphone With a 6,000mAh Battery

The CAMON Slim 5G’s most striking physical feature is its thin chassis.

At 6.39 millimeters, it is considerably slimmer than many conventional large-screen smartphones.

Despite that design, TECNO has fitted the phone with a 6,000mAh battery.

The device also supports 45W wired charging.

A large battery can help users who spend long periods navigating, taking photos, browsing social media or working away from a charging point.

However, battery capacity alone does not determine actual endurance.

Screen brightness, network coverage, refresh rate, applications and processor workload all influence how long a smartphone lasts between charges.

TECNO markets the battery as having five-year durability characteristics, but this is a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee that every unit will maintain identical battery performance for five years.

Independent testing and individual usage remain important.

Sony LYTIA 700C Takes Center Stage

The camera is the second major selling point.

The CAMON Slim 5G uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C main sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor format and optical image stabilization.

Optical image stabilization, or OIS, helps compensate for small movements when taking photographs.

The phone also includes an 8MP autofocus ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front-facing camera.

TECNO’s Super-Zoom FlashSnap feature is designed to help capture moving subjects, while Universal Tone software is intended to improve how different skin tones are represented.

These features appeal to users who regularly take portraits, travel photographs and social media content.

But an important clarification is necessary.

The phone does not have a separate optical telephoto camera.

Its advertised 2x shooting feature uses the main camera’s imaging system and software processing, rather than a dedicated telephoto lens.

Consumers should not confuse the term ‘telephoto snap’ in promotional reporting with the presence of separate telephoto hardware.

Independent Reviews Offer Mixed Camera Findings

Reviewers have highlighted the benefits of TECNO’s camera setup while identifying clear limitations.

Gadget Pilipinas found the main camera capable of producing detailed daylight photographs and attractive portraits.

However, the review noted that the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens limits long-range photography.

GadgetMatch offered a more mixed assessment.

Its reviewer said some pictures looked relatively flat and that the automatic white balance could struggle indoors.

The review also found that photographs of moving subjects did not always perform as expected.

These differences demonstrate why camera specifications alone cannot determine image quality.

A 50MP sensor provides a certain level of resolution, but processing, optics, lighting and software influence the final result.

The Sony sensor is a meaningful hardware feature, not a guarantee that every image will match the performance of a premium flagship smartphone.

144Hz AMOLED Display Adds a Premium Touch

The handset features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz.

A high refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations appear smoother.

AMOLED technology can provide strong contrast and deep blacks, making it appealing for video streaming, photography and general smartphone use.

TECNO’s screen specification is competitive for a device in its price category.

But a 144Hz screen does not mean every application or mobile game will run at 144 frames per second.

Actual gaming frame rates depend on the processor, graphics hardware, software optimization and individual game settings.

The screen’s higher refresh rate may also influence power consumption depending on how the phone manages it.

Dimensity 7300e Handles Everyday Tasks, But Gaming Has Limits

The CAMON Slim 5G runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300e 5G chipset.

It includes 8GB of physical RAM, with a feature that allows additional storage space to function as virtual or extended memory.

TECNO advertises up to 16GB of Extended RAM, resulting in an advertised combined figure of up to 24GB.

However, virtual memory is not equivalent to installing additional physical RAM.

It uses part of the phone’s storage and may behave differently from dedicated memory.

Independent reviews indicate that the processor is suitable for ordinary applications, multitasking and casual entertainment.

But Gadget Pilipinas found demanding games less convincing, particularly at high graphics settings.

Its review noted that heavier gaming workloads could expose performance limitations and lead to the device becoming warm.

That makes the CAMON Slim 5G more suitable for consumers who prioritize appearance, photography and daily use than those seeking the strongest gaming performance for their money.

MagBadge Offers a Different Approach to Smartphone Photography

TECNO’s MagBadge is one of the handset’s most unusual accessories.

The magnetic companion device features a 1.73-inch OLED screen, allowing users to preview images from the phone’s rear camera.

It also supports remote-shutter operation, designed to work at distances of up to 10 meters under suitable conditions.

This can help users take selfies or group shots with the higher-resolution rear camera.

Rather than relying entirely on the front-facing camera, a person can position the phone, check the framing through the MagBadge and trigger the shutter remotely.

The accessory also supports wireless media-related functions.

However, independent testing suggests the experience is not entirely seamless.

A Daily Tribune reviewer reported that initial pairing took some effort and the live camera preview had a slight delay.

The feature may be useful for some content creators, but it will not necessarily become an essential accessory for every buyer.

Phone Promises Strong Water and Dust Resistance

TECNO lists IP68, IP69 and IP69K resistance ratings for the CAMON Slim 5G.

The ratings refer to standardized levels of protection against dust and specified water-exposure conditions.

For consumers, these certifications may offer additional confidence against certain everyday environmental hazards.

However, IP ratings should not be interpreted as a promise that a phone is completely waterproof under all conditions.

Exposure limits, device wear, physical damage and warranty exclusions can still affect protection.

Resistance to controlled laboratory tests also does not automatically establish that a device is suitable for diving, prolonged underwater use or exposure to every type of liquid.

Consumers should review the manufacturer’s warranty terms before intentionally exposing the phone to water.

TECNO Offers Four Color Options

The handset is listed in Burgundy Red, Matisse Black, Rebel Pink and Gossamer White.

The manufacturer has used design and styling as prominent parts of the phone’s marketing campaign.

The slim profile, distinctive finishes and minimalist appearance are intended to differentiate it from conventional midrange smartphones.

However, the October 19 Philippine report said Gossamer White was expected toward late October.

TECNO’s official product specifications list the color but do not guarantee stock at every participating store.

Availability may differ by region, retailer and configuration.

Customers interested in a specific finish should verify local stock before purchasing.

Promotional Discounts Could Affect the Real Price

TECNO’s Philippine campaign includes promotional offers for eligible customers.

According to its October 15 preorder guide, customers claiming eligible purchases between October 19 and 23 could receive a ₱2,000 discount, subject to promotional conditions.

Earlier promotional periods offered larger advertised discounts.

The company also advertised a gift package valued at ₱10,000, including the MagBadge and selected warranty and digital services.

But these benefits are subject to participation, stock availability and the complete campaign terms.

A ₱10,000 gift-package valuation does not mean buyers automatically receive ₱10,000 in cash.

Likewise, a temporary promotional price is not necessarily the permanent retail price.

The company has identified financing partners, including Home Credit, Skyro, Salmon, PayJoy, BillEase and Kredivo.

Installment availability remains subject to approval and the relevant financing terms.

Buyers should consider total repayment costs, fees and the actual final checkout price.

TECNO’s Globe Partnership Adds Connectivity Perks

The Philippine launch also includes a promotional arrangement with Globe Telecom.

Eligible CAMON Slim 5G buyers may receive a complimentary prepaid SIM accompanied by an advertised one-year unlimited 5G data offer.

However, the benefit is subject to the applicable promotional conditions, network coverage and plan mechanics.

A 5G-capable smartphone does not guarantee a 5G signal in every Philippine location.

Actual speeds depend on network availability, congestion, frequency compatibility and operating conditions.

Consumers should verify the participating offer and applicable limitations rather than assuming the mobile data benefit is unrestricted in every circumstance.

The Battle for Philippine Midrange Smartphone Buyers

TECNO’s latest release enters a competitive market where shoppers increasingly compare phones across several categories.

Some buyers prioritize photography and design.

Others look for stronger processors, longer software support, gaming performance or lower prices.

The CAMON Slim 5G attempts to combine an exceptionally thin design with a relatively large battery, a Sony main camera and a high-refresh-rate display.

These features create an appealing specification sheet.

But the value proposition depends on buyer priorities.

For a customer who takes portraits, watches videos and values portability, the phone may be attractive.

For someone who regularly plays demanding games or needs strong optical zoom, another device may be a better fit.

Independent reviews reinforce the importance of evaluating the entire user experience rather than selecting a phone based on one impressive number.

The Bigger Test: Can Style and Battery Life Justify the Price?

The CAMON Slim 5G demonstrates TECNO’s effort to compete through physical design and photography features.

The combination of a 6.39mm chassis and a 6,000mAh battery gives the device a distinctive identity.

The Sony LYTIA camera, AMOLED display and MagBadge add further selling points.

But a nearly ₱28,000 smartphone must offer more than attractive specifications.

Its performance, camera consistency, long-term reliability, after-sales support and actual selling price all matter.

Independent reviewers have already identified compromises in gaming performance and telephoto photography.

The question for Philippine consumers is whether those limitations are acceptable in exchange for the device’s slim design, battery capacity and other features.

TECNO has launched a strikingly thin 5G smartphone with Sony imaging and a substantial battery. But the real test is whether the CAMON Slim 5G delivers enough everyday value to convince Filipino buyers that its premium-looking design is worth the price.
