South Korean wushu star Lee Ha-sung has returned to the Asian Games podium, winning a silver medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after a remarkably close finish that separated him from the bronze medalist by just 0.003 points.
Lee scored a combined 19.406 points in the men’s wushu taolu daoshu and gunshu events on Sept. 23 at the Aichi Prefecture Budokan in Nagoya, Japan. China’s Gao Xiaobin claimed gold with 19.582 points, while Malaysia’s Clement Siow Wei Ting took bronze with 19.403.
Silver Decided by Just 0.003 Points
The medal battle went down to an extremely narrow margin.
Lee began the competition strongly in the morning’s daoshu event, scoring 9.706 points and finishing second. His score included 5.00 points for movement quality, 2.00 for difficulty and 2.706 for performance.
He then competed in gunshu later in the day, earning 9.700 points to place fourth in that individual segment.
When the two scores were combined, Lee reached 19.406 points — enough for silver and only 0.003 ahead of Siow Wei Ting’s 19.403.
China’s Gao Xiaobin dominated both components, recording 9.786 in daoshu and 9.796 in gunshu for a combined 19.582 and the gold medal.
A Second Asian Games Medal, 12 Years Later
The silver marks Lee’s return to the Asian Games podium 12 years after his breakthrough at the 2014 Incheon Games.
In 2014, Lee won the men’s changquan gold medal and became the first Korean athlete to win a gold medal at those Games. His victory also gave South Korea its first Asian Games wushu gold since 2002.
Lee subsequently won the men’s changquan title at the 2015 World Wushu Championships and a silver medal in men’s jianshu at the 2017 World Championships, according to Korean media reports.
His 2018 Asian Games campaign in Jakarta-Palembang did not produce a medal after a landing error left him 12th in changquan. His latest performance therefore represents a return to the podium after a lengthy gap.
Korea Finishes Wushu Competition With Two Medals
Lee’s silver was South Korea’s second wushu medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
Earlier in the competition, An Hyeon-ki won bronze in the men’s taijiquan and taijijian events. South Korea therefore finished the wushu competition with one silver and one bronze medal.
The result adds another chapter to Lee’s long Asian Games career while highlighting just how tight the medal fight was in Nagoya.
After combining two separate performances into one final score, Lee Ha-sung secured silver by only three-thousandths of a point — a margin small enough to make every part of his routine count.
