SINGAPORE — Kit Chan’s long-awaited return to the Singapore stage delivered an emotional homecoming on Sept. 19, but one moment involving Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story quickly became one of the night’s most memorable highlights.
The Singaporean singer performed “Echoes Of Petals”, the award-winning theme song from Mediacorp’s hit drama, during her sold-out Atrium Live Tour concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The performance was watched by about 7,500 fans, with Singaporean actress Jeanette Aw among the audience.
And then came the moment that caught attention.
As Chan reached the latter part of “Echoes Of Petals”, cameras captured Aw smiling on the venue’s giant screens.
Aw’s appearance carried an added layer of nostalgia. She played Yueniang, the original protagonist of The Little Nyonya, in Emerald Hill, the sequel to the hugely popular 2008-09 drama.
The moment connected two generations of Singapore television and music — Chan’s voice providing the soundtrack while one of the franchise’s most recognisable faces appeared in the audience.
From TV drama to a live concert stage
“Echoes Of Petals” was originally associated with Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story, which aired in 2025.
The song went on to win Best Original Song at Star Awards 2026, held in April. Mediacorp’s official results list Kit Chan as the singer of the winning song.
The Sept. 19 performance was particularly significant because it was only the second live performance of the song by Chan. She had previously performed it at the 2025 Star Awards.
The concert therefore gave thousands of fans the opportunity to hear the song live again — this time in the setting of Chan’s own headline show.
A star-studded audience
Chan’s Singapore homecoming attracted an impressive gathering of local entertainment figures.
According to The Straits Times, the audience included fellow Singaporean singers JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun and Joi Chua, along with composers Lee Wei Song, Liang Wern Fook and Jimmy Ye and musician Bang Wenfu.
The response to Chan’s catalogue was equally nostalgic.
JJ Lin was seen mouthing the lyrics to “Heartache”, while Liang Wern Fook sang along to “Home”, Chan’s iconic 1998 song that has become deeply associated with Singapore’s National Day celebrations.
For Chan, the concert was more than simply a return to the Singapore stage.
“It is good to be home. I have missed you,” she told the audience, according to The Straits Times.
Kit Chan’s first major Singapore concert in nearly three years
The Sept. 19 performance marked Chan’s first major solo concert in Singapore since her Little Things – Kit Chan 30th Anniversary Concert at Sands Theatre in September 2023.
The Atrium Live Tour began in Guangzhou in May 2026 before travelling to other Chinese cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu.
The Singapore show was also Chan’s first concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in a decade, following previous appearances at the venue in 2001 and 2016.
The tour’s title, “Atrium”, draws on the heart’s atrium — the chamber through which blood enters the heart — as a metaphor for an intimate inner space where emotions, memories and unspoken feelings reside.
That idea shaped much of the concert.
From ‘Heartache’ to ‘Home’
The 2½-hour performance featured songs spanning Chan’s more than three-decade career.
Among the familiar favourites were “Worries”, “Like You”, “Heartache” and “Home”, alongside newer material and songs from her musical and Cantonese repertoire.
The production also expanded on the larger Indoor Stadium stage.
Large projections of butterflies accompanied “May Love Stay Strong”, while confetti filled the venue during “Dazzling” and “Like You”, creating a considerably more immersive spectacle than Chan’s previous concerts at the smaller Sands Theatre venue.
Chan also performed covers originally recorded by male singers, including songs by Mao Buyi, Leslie Cheung and Eason Chan.
She explained that performing those songs allowed her to preserve their original spirit while approaching them from her own perspective as a woman.
More than nostalgia
While the concert celebrated Chan’s past, her message to the audience was firmly about looking forward.
She told concertgoers that she hoped they would continue to review and re-examine themselves, reflecting her belief that music can be more than entertainment — it can also bring people together and encourage personal reflection.
Chan has also previously spoken about the personal meaning behind the Atrium tour. In an interview ahead of the Singapore concert, she described relationships and matters of the heart as increasingly important to her at this stage of her life.
That made the Singapore concert a fitting homecoming: a show built around memory, relationships and the songs that have accompanied audiences through different chapters of their lives.
And for fans of Emerald Hill, there was an extra piece of nostalgia — Kit Chan singing “Echoes Of Petals” while Jeanette Aw appeared on the big screen, briefly bringing the drama’s world back to life inside the concert hall.
