American rock band Jimmy Eat World has cancelled two upcoming festival performances after frontman Jim Adkins underwent emergency surgery.
The band announced the cancellations on Sept 17, saying Adkins had required an unexpected medical procedure and would need time to recover.
Jimmy Eat World was scheduled to perform at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.
In a statement shared with fans, the band apologised for having to withdraw from the shows and said Adkins was expected to make a full recovery.
The group did not disclose details about the medical emergency or the procedure.
Jimmy Eat World has been touring internationally in support of its latest music, continuing a career that has spanned more than three decades.
Formed in Mesa, Arizona, in 1993, the band rose to international prominence with albums including Bleed American and Futures. Their best-known songs include “The Middle”, “Sweetness” and “Pain”.
Adkins has served as the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist since its formation and remains its central creative figure.
The cancellations mean fans attending the two festivals will not see the band perform as originally scheduled. Festival organisers are expected to announce any changes to the line-ups separately.
The band has not indicated whether other performances on its schedule will be affected.
Fans have responded with messages of support for Adkins following news of the surgery, while the group has asked them to respect his privacy as he recovers.
Jimmy Eat World said it looks forward to returning to the stage once Adkins is well enough to perform again.
