YDC 2026 Showcases Hong Kong’s Emerging Fashion Designers

Hong Kong’s Young Designers’ Contest 2026 has highlighted a new generation of local fashion talent, with 10 finalists presenting collections inspired by personal experiences, emotions and the city’s creative culture.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and held as part of CENTRESTAGE, the annual competition concluded on September 5. This year’s theme, “YOU.”, encouraged designers to express their individual identities through distinctive silhouettes, materials and storytelling.

Tsui Ao Lung won the competition with his collection “The Tide”, which draws inspiration from a classic Cantopop song and explores the different stages of a woman’s life through themes of emotion, destiny and change. He received HK$60,000 and an overseas study opportunity sponsored by Fang Brothers Knitting.

Cheang King Tung, Kenneth received both the Excellence Award and Best Art Direction Award for “NOSTALGIA”. His collection explores ideas of homeland, distance and longing, using clothing to express his personal connection with Hong Kong.

Lam Chun Ni, Jenny won the public-voted “My Favourite Collection” Award for “The Old Si-Fut and New Chai”. The collection examines relationships between experienced workers and newcomers in Hong Kong workplaces, turning familiar workplace advice and expectations into fashion concepts.

The contest featured an international judging panel that included ROKH founder and creative director Rok Hwang, Vogue Hong Kong editorial director Cherry Mui and other fashion industry professionals.

YDC has long served as a platform for emerging Hong Kong designers, giving young talents opportunities to showcase their work, gain industry exposure and connect with international fashion professionals.
