ILOILO CITY — A 17-year-old boy was arrested after a seafood restaurant was reportedly burglarized in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur in the Arevalo district of Iloilo City early Friday morning, August 21, with police recovering the full ₱10,000 allegedly taken from the establishment.
According to a report by Panay News, the minor—identified only by the alias “Boyboy” because of his age—was reportedly spotted near the shoreline shortly after the robbery. He is described as a resident of Tanza Esperanza in Iloilo City’s City Proper.
Suspect allegedly went to shoreline after robbery
The case took an unexpected turn when a witness, identified as alias “Ben,” reportedly told authorities that the teenager went toward the shoreline after the break-in, allegedly to count the money taken from the restaurant.
Barangay kagawad George Tiangana, who was reportedly heading out to go fishing, noticed the teenager acting suspiciously along the coast.
Tiangana confronted the boy, and with assistance from local authorities, the 17-year-old was eventually apprehended, according to the report.
Police reportedly recovered the entire ₱10,000 allegedly stolen from the restaurant. The money was subsequently returned to the establishment’s owner.
Three alleged accomplices remain at large
While authorities managed to arrest the minor, three alleged accomplices reportedly escaped and remained at large as of the latest available report.
The incident began with a reported break-in at a seafood restaurant in Sto. Niño Sur during the early hours of August 21. Details surrounding how the establishment was entered and the identities of the other alleged participants have not been publicly disclosed in the available reports.
Minor placed under police custody
The 17-year-old was placed under the custody of the Arevalo police station for proper disposition, according to Panay News.
Because the arrested person is a minor, authorities and media reports have withheld his full identity and used an alias instead. The case remains subject to the appropriate legal and juvenile procedures.
The available reporting also does not establish that the teenager has been convicted of robbery. At this stage, he is an arrested suspect, while the investigation into the alleged involvement of the three other individuals remains ongoing.
