Tiger Shroff Escapes Mumbai Shooting as 3 Suspects Are Detained — But Is a Notorious Crime Gang Behind the Attack?

Bollywood action superstar Tiger Shroff has survived a terrifying shooting in Mumbai, triggering a major police investigation and renewed concerns about the safety of India’s biggest entertainment personalities.

The 36-year-old actor, famous for blockbuster action films such as Baaghi and War, was targeted by gunmen on Sunday evening, October 18, in the upscale Juhu neighborhood.

According to AFP and Channel NewsAsia, Shroff escaped without gunshot wounds, but two other people, including his driver, were injured.

Authorities have detained three suspects in Rajasthan as investigators race to establish who orchestrated the attack and why one of Bollywood’s most recognizable action stars was targeted.

Gunmen Open Fire Near Mumbai’s Bollywood District

The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. near Pushpa Park in Juhu, an affluent Mumbai neighborhood known for its celebrity residences and film-industry connections.

Local media reported that three attackers arrived on a motorcycle, with two apparently firing toward Shroff’s BMW while another waited to help them escape.

Footage reported by India Today and the Hindustan Times appeared to capture the frightening confrontation, showing the suspects opening fire before fleeing the scene.

Accounts differ on the number of shots fired. India Today cited five rounds, while an early Times of India report mentioned seven. The precise number should therefore be treated as a developing investigative detail.

Despite the violence, Shroff did not suffer a gunshot wound. His driver and another person were reported injured.

Three Suspects Detained as Police Investigate Motive

Mumbai police launched an extensive investigation, examining security-camera recordings, witness accounts and evidence left behind by the attackers.

AFP reported that three suspects were detained in Rajasthan.

Police official Tejaswani Gautam said preliminary questioning revealed that two of the detained individuals had separate prior cases, one involving theft and another involving India’s Arms Act.

Authorities have not publicly established a definitive motive or confirmed who ordered the shooting.

The detention of suspects represents an important development, but it does not establish their guilt or prove any alleged connection to a criminal organization.

Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claim Raises New Questions

One of the most alarming developments involves claims linking the shooting to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi criminal network.

India Today and The Times of India reported that individuals claiming connections to the gang asserted responsibility for the attack.

However, those claims require independent verification. Police have not conclusively established that the Bishnoi network directed the shooting or that a particular individual commissioned it.

The allegations carry significant weight because of the gang’s history of threats involving Bollywood celebrities, particularly actor Salman Khan.

In April 2024, gunmen opened fire outside Khan’s Mumbai residence, an incident that intensified scrutiny of organized-crime threats against India’s entertainment industry.

The potential connection between the two incidents remains an investigative question rather than an established fact.

Why the Attack Has Shaken Bollywood

Shroff is among the Hindi film industry’s best-known action performers, celebrated for his martial-arts skills, acrobatics and physically demanding screen performances.

The son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff, he rose to prominence following his 2014 debut in Heropanti and later built an international following through the Baaghi franchise and the action thriller War.

For Bollywood, the shooting raises a disturbing question: how vulnerable are major film personalities when their daily movements become predictable?

The Indian Express reported that investigators were examining whether the attackers knew about Shroff’s regular football activities near the location.

If confirmed, that possibility could indicate surveillance or advance planning, although police have not publicly established the full circumstances of the attack.

Security Concerns Grow as Investigation Continues

Beyond the immediate criminal investigation, the incident has renewed debate about public safety and organized crime in Mumbai.

The shooting reportedly unfolded near a popular recreational area, raising concerns not only for celebrities but also for drivers, spectators and residents who may be caught in violence directed at high-profile individuals.

Local political figures have also questioned security arrangements following the incident, according to The Indian Express.

Investigators now face several urgent questions: Who financed or planned the shooting? Were the attackers acting independently or under instructions? And was Shroff the intended target of a wider intimidation campaign?

Until authorities establish the motive and verify claims of responsibility, those questions remain unanswered.
