Woman Arrested for Drink Driving After Three-Car Accident Along Amoy Street in Singapore

A 37-year-old woman was arrested for drink driving after a three-car accident in Singapore’s Chinatown in the early hours of Saturday, October 17, which left two people hospitalised.

The police said they were alerted to the accident along Amoy Street, towards Cross Street, at about 12.45am. The collision also involved two people who were seated outside a bar in the area.

A 25-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were taken conscious to Singapore General Hospital for treatment.

A 39-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital, police said.

Photographs circulating on social media showed a grey car that appeared to have crashed into the hoarding of a building at Far East Square undergoing renovation. Two other vehicles, one silver and one blue, were also seen at the scene.

The police confirmed that the 37-year-old woman had been arrested for drink driving. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.

The incident comes amid concerns over road safety in Singapore. Traffic Police figures released in August showed that the number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries rose to 3,869 in the first half of 2026, compared with 3,748 during the same period in 2025.

The number of people injured also increased, from 4,894 in the first half of 2025 to 5,090 in the first six months of 2026.

In August, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam told Parliament that 5,176 people had been arrested for drink driving between 2023 and 2025. Of these cases, 647 offenders were jailed.

Police investigations into the Amoy Street collision are continuing.
