Russian Attack on Kyiv Injures at Least 16

A Russian barrage of missiles and drones targeting Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and surrounding areas injured at least 16 people overnight and into Thursday morning, according to local authorities.

The Kyiv City Military Administration said attacks were recorded at more than 10 locations across the capital. A 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy were among those injured.

Ukraine’s Air Force said it destroyed or suppressed 131 Russian aerial targets during the overnight attack. The strikes involved ballistic and cruise missiles as well as 157 drones and decoys.

The main areas targeted were the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions. Strikes were reported at 36 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at five other sites.

Several parts of Kyiv sustained damage. In the Dniprovsky district, a warehouse, office building, residential buildings and cars were damaged. Warehouses and vehicles were also damaged in the Solomyansky and Darnitsky districts.

In the Podilsky district, the roof of a non-residential building was damaged. Authorities also reported damage to other civilian infrastructure across the capital.

The overnight assault came after another Russian attack on Kyiv earlier in the week that killed one person and injured at least 12 others, according to local officials.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted metallurgical and electronics plants, military-industrial facilities, energy infrastructure and transport facilities in the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions.

The ministry also said three bulk carriers and a ferry at the port of Chornomorsk were hit. It described the vessels as being involved in transporting supplies for the Ukrainian military.

The latest strikes come as diplomatic efforts to reduce fighting between Russia and Ukraine continue, with the two sides still far apart on key issues surrounding a potential settlement.

The scale of the overnight attack highlights the continuing intensity of the aerial war, even as international efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict remain ongoing.
