MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Some of the country’s most familiar food and beverage brands are tightening their grip on Filipino shopping baskets as Gokongwei-led Universal Robina Corporation (URC) secures four spots among the Philippines’ most chosen consumer brands.
From Great Taste coffee and C2 tea to Piattos chips and Nissin Noodles, URC’s products continue to reach millions of Filipino households despite mounting competition and pressure on consumer spending.
The latest Worldpanel by Numerator 2026 Brand Footprint report shows Piattos reaching approximately 73% of Filipino households, while Great Taste recorded an impressive 317 million Consumer Reach Points.
C2 also emerged as a growing competitor in the ready-to-drink tea market, posting an 11% increase in consumer reach, while Nissin Noodles strengthened its position in at-home food consumption.
But the latest findings reveal a bigger story.
In a market where consumers are increasingly selective about what they buy, product availability, affordability and purchasing convenience may be becoming just as important as brand familiarity.
GREAT TASTE RECORDS 317 MILLION CONSUMER REACH POINTS
Great Taste remains one of the strongest performers in URC’s Philippine beverage portfolio.
According to the 2026 Brand Footprint report cited by InsiderPH, Great Taste recorded 317 million Consumer Reach Points, reaching approximately 66% of Filipino households.
The coffee brand retained its position as the fourth most chosen beverage brand in the country.
It also ranked 14th across all fast-moving consumer goods brands.
Consumer Reach Points, commonly called CRP, measure how frequently households choose a brand.
The calculation combines the number of households in a market, the share purchasing a brand and how often those households buy it.
Therefore, Great Taste’s 317 million CRP should not be interpreted as 317 million individual consumers or ₱317 million in sales.
Instead, the figure reflects the brand’s estimated purchasing reach and frequency.
The results demonstrate Great Taste’s continued relevance in Filipino households, where coffee remains part of everyday routines.
For URC, maintaining a strong position in a highly competitive beverage category is commercially significant.
However, the rankings do not independently establish market share by revenue or profitability.
PIATTOS REACHES 73% OF FILIPINO HOUSEHOLDS
Piattos emerged as another standout performer.
The popular potato snack brand reached approximately 73% of Filipino households and generated 180 million Consumer Reach Points.
It ranked eighth among food brands in the 2026 Brand Footprint report.
The figures highlight the strength of URC’s snack portfolio and the widespread availability of Piattos across different retail channels.
From neighborhood sari-sari stores to supermarkets and discount retailers, accessibility remains an important factor in consumer purchasing decisions.
Piattos also benefits from longstanding brand recognition in the Philippine snack market.
However, wide household penetration does not necessarily mean every household purchases the product frequently.
The distinction matters because Consumer Reach Points consider both penetration and buying frequency.
A brand can expand by attracting additional households, encouraging existing customers to purchase more often, or achieving both.
For Piattos, the latest results suggest that broad distribution remains a significant competitive advantage.
C2 TEA POSTS 11% GROWTH AS DISTRIBUTION EXPANDS
C2 was among URC’s strongest performers in terms of reported growth.
The ready-to-drink tea brand registered 37 million Consumer Reach Points, compared with approximately 33 million in the previous reporting period.
Worldpanel described this as 11% annual growth on a comparable reporting basis.
The brand reached approximately 29% of Filipino households.
Its performance was supported by wider retail distribution and improved availability through discount retailers, supermarkets and sari-sari stores.
The expansion demonstrates the importance of placing products where consumers already shop.
For ready-to-drink beverages, convenience is a major part of the purchasing experience.
Consumers may choose products available at neighborhood stores, school-area retailers, transport hubs or supermarkets rather than making a separate trip for a specific brand.
Increasing retail accessibility can therefore help companies attract additional buyers and encourage repeat purchases.
However, the 11% growth refers to Consumer Reach Points, not a verified 11% increase in sales revenue or profit.
NISSIN NOODLES REACHES MORE THAN HALF OF FILIPINO HOUSEHOLDS
URC’s Nissin Noodles also secured a strong position in the latest consumer rankings.
The brand placed 14th among food brands, generating 104 million Consumer Reach Points.
Household penetration reached approximately 51%.
The report recorded 3% growth from the previous comparable period.
Its performance was linked to increasing opportunities for at-home consumption and the continuing importance of convenient food products.
Instant noodles remain a familiar option for households seeking quick and easy meal preparation.
For food manufacturers, the challenge is maintaining availability and consumer relevance while addressing changing purchasing habits.
Pack sizes, product variety, retail distribution and competitive pricing can influence household decisions.
The Brand Footprint results suggest that Nissin Noodles continues to maintain significant consumer reach.
But the rankings alone do not demonstrate whether consumers are spending more per purchase or whether the brand’s operating margins have improved.
WORLDpanel EXPLAINS WHY HOUSEHOLD REACH MATTERS
Worldpanel by Numerator’s Brand Footprint research evaluates how often consumers choose brands in everyday shopping.
The 2026 global edition covers purchases made during 2025 across 58 markets.
Its methodology focuses on actual recorded household purchases rather than consumer awareness or stated preferences alone.
This approach provides an important distinction.
A brand may be widely recognized but purchased infrequently.
Another brand may have a smaller audience but generate significant repeat buying.
Consumer Reach Points combine these factors into a single measure.
For companies such as URC, the findings can help identify whether future growth should focus on attracting new households, increasing purchasing frequency or improving distribution.
Mieke Bartholomeus, strategic insights director at Worldpanel by Numerator, emphasized that attracting additional shoppers and expanding consumption occasions remain important growth opportunities.
The message is particularly relevant for established brands that already reach a large portion of households.
Once a brand has achieved broad penetration, sustaining growth may require additional purchase occasions and stronger customer retention.
URC SAYS CONSUMER TRUST REMAINS CENTRAL TO ITS STRATEGY
URC Chief Marketing Officer Karen Ong welcomed the recognition of Great Taste, C2, Piattos and Nissin Noodles.
In a statement cited by InsiderPH, Ong described their inclusion among the country’s most chosen brands as evidence of the trust Filipino consumers place in URC products.
The company continues to focus on maintaining product relevance while improving accessibility across different purchasing channels.
The strategy reflects the realities of the fast-moving consumer goods industry.
Food and beverage companies must compete for limited household budgets while managing manufacturing costs, distribution expenses and changing consumer preferences.
A recognized brand name can help encourage purchasing decisions.
However, availability and perceived value often determine whether consumers actually place a product in their shopping baskets.
For URC, balancing these factors remains central to defending its established position in the Philippine market.
SARI-SARI STORES REMAIN AN IMPORTANT BATTLEGROUND
One of the most notable themes in the latest rankings is the role of retail distribution.
C2’s improved performance was supported partly by greater availability in discount retailers, supermarkets and sari-sari stores.
Piattos also expanded its reach through discount-store channels.
These developments illustrate why distribution remains important even for established national brands.
Sari-sari stores play a significant role in neighborhood retail across the Philippines.
For consumers, these stores can provide convenient access to packaged food and beverages near homes and workplaces.
For manufacturers, reaching more retail outlets can help products remain visible and available for everyday purchases.
However, expanding distribution also requires efficient inventory management, reliable logistics and sustainable commercial arrangements with retailers.
The companies that combine product appeal with consistent availability may be better positioned to compete for repeat purchases.
INDEPENDENT REPORTING CONFIRMS URC’S BRAND MOMENTUM
A separate October 21 report from Context.ph also highlighted the performance of Great Taste, C2, Piattos and Nissin Noodles in Worldpanel’s rankings.
The publication identified C2’s 11% growth and Nissin Noodles’ 3% increase as signs of momentum across URC’s portfolio.
It also emphasized the role of wider distribution and convenient consumption.
Earlier corporate reporting from URC demonstrated that its household brands had already established strong consumer positions.
In November 2024, the company reported that six of its brands were included among leading choices in Kantar’s Brand Footprint research.
Those brands included Great Taste, C2, Piattos and other familiar food products.
The latest 2026 findings suggest that several of URC’s flagship brands have maintained significant consumer reach over multiple reporting periods.
However, changes to research samples and methodology mean figures from different report editions should not be compared without checking whether they have been adjusted to a consistent basis.
URC’S PROFITS RISE AS BRANDED FOODS SUPPORT GROWTH
The consumer rankings also come against the backdrop of stronger financial results for Universal Robina Corporation.
According to an August 6 report by BusinessMirror, URC’s first-half 2026 net income increased approximately 10% to ₱6.91 billion from ₱6.27 billion a year earlier.
Total revenue rose 4% to ₱89.33 billion.
The company attributed its performance to growth in branded consumer businesses, animal nutrition and health operations, and improving contributions from its flour business.
Manila Bulletin similarly reported that branded products and animal feeds supported the company’s earnings performance.
Meanwhile, URC’s second-quarter 2026 revenue reached ₱41.5 billion, increasing 2% year over year.
Its Branded Consumer Foods business generated approximately ₱29.4 billion in quarterly sales, supported by performance in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
These results provide financial context for the strength of the company’s consumer portfolio.
However, the Brand Footprint rankings do not establish how much individual products such as Great Taste or Piattos contributed to the company’s overall earnings.
GOKONGWEI GROUP CONTINUES EXPANSION ACROSS SOUTHEAST ASIA
URC’s ambitions extend beyond the Philippine market.
The company has expanded its presence in Southeast Asia through snack, beverage and other packaged food brands.
Its regional portfolio includes products such as Lexus, Tivoli and Fun-O.
In February 2026, InsiderPH reported that Cloud 9 and Munchy’s secured recognition at Malaysia’s Putra Brand Awards, supporting URC’s regional consumer brand strategy.
The company’s broader expansion demonstrates its interest in developing brand recognition and retail distribution across markets with different consumer preferences.
However, success in one country does not guarantee the same results in another.
Manufacturers must adapt to local purchasing habits, retail structures, competition and product preferences.
For URC, its Philippine brand portfolio provides an established domestic foundation while international operations create additional growth opportunities.
THE BIGGER QUESTION: CAN URC KEEP WINNING FILIPINO SHOPPING BASKETS?
The 2026 Brand Footprint findings highlight the continued importance of familiar consumer brands in the Philippines.
Great Taste remains a major coffee brand.
Piattos has achieved widespread household penetration.
C2 is attracting more consumer choices through improved distribution.
Nissin Noodles continues to benefit from demand for convenient meals.
Together, their performance reinforces URC’s position in the country’s fast-moving consumer goods market.
But maintaining that position will require more than relying on existing popularity.
Consumers continue to face changing prices, new competitors and expanding product choices.
Manufacturers must deliver attractive products, maintain availability and provide value that encourages repeat purchases.
For URC, the challenge will be turning brand familiarity into sustained consumer loyalty and profitable growth.
Reaching millions of Filipino households is an important achievement, but the next stage of competition will depend on how often those households continue choosing the same products.
And as Great Taste, C2, Piattos and Nissin Noodles defend their places in Filipino shopping baskets, one question remains:
Can URC turn its massive household reach into another wave of growth — or will changing shopping habits and fierce competition force even the Philippines’ most familiar brands to reinvent themselves?
