A 34-year-old Malaysian motorcyclist was injured in a three-vehicle accident along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Woodlands Checkpoint on Saturday morning, disrupting traffic on one of Singapore’s key routes to the Malaysia border.
The crash happened at about 11.50am on Sept. 26 and involved two cars and a Malaysia-registered motorcycle. The collision occurred along the BKE in the direction of Woodlands Checkpoint.
Footage circulating online showed the motorcyclist lying on the road after the collision, while other motorists stopped to assist. His motorcycle came to rest across two lanes behind a white car, which sustained damage to its rear bumper and fender. Debris was also scattered across the rightmost lane.
Singapore’s police and emergency services said the motorcyclist was conscious when he was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment. His injuries were not otherwise detailed in the initial report.
A 53-year-old male car driver is assisting police with the ongoing investigation into the accident. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the circumstances that led to the collision or indicated whether any driver has been arrested or charged.
The incident comes as the BKE and approaches to Woodlands Checkpoint continue to experience periodic traffic disruptions caused by accidents. Earlier incidents this year have also resulted in lanes being blocked and motorists being warned to expect delays.
The BKE is an important route for cross-border commuters travelling between Singapore and Malaysia, meaning even relatively localized accidents can affect traffic approaching the checkpoint.
Police investigations into the latest collision remain ongoing, while the condition of the injured motorcyclist remains a key concern following the crash.
