ITCZ Brings Widespread Rain to Visayas and Mindanao as PAGASA Warns of Flood and Landslide Risks

MANILA — Rainy weather is set to dominate large parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Monday as the prevailing Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA forecasts scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Palawan, and Lanao del Sur.

The weather agency warned that moderate to heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas vulnerable to sudden rises in water levels and rain-induced slope instability.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao may experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Luzon is also not completely spared, with localized thunderstorms expected to bring occasional rain in some areas.

Despite the unsettled conditions, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions are expected across the Philippine archipelago, PAGASA said.

The latest forecast highlights the continuing influence of the ITCZ, a weather system that can produce persistent cloudiness, rain showers, and thunderstorms over affected areas.

Residents in areas covered by the forecast are advised to remain alert to updates from PAGASA, especially when heavy rain develops. Motorists and communities in flood- and landslide-prone locations should also exercise caution as weather conditions can change quickly.

With several regions facing the possibility of intense rainfall, the next weather updates could determine which areas see the biggest impact from the ITCZ.
