Blackpink’s Jennie Draws Inspiration From the World Around Her as She Explores New Creative Paths

Blackpink star Jennie says she is constantly gathering inspiration from the world around her, drawing ideas from film, fashion, art, music, travel and literature to shape her creative projects.

The 30-year-old singer, who released her debut solo album Ruby in 2025, shared her approach to creativity in an interview with Interview magazine. She explained that inspiration does not always come from deliberately searching for a particular reference.

“I think I’m always collecting inspiration from what’s around me, whether it’s film, fashion, art, music, places I’ve been, or something I’ve read,” Jennie said.

She added that certain influences sometimes stay with her and connect naturally with the feelings or ideas she wants to express through her work.

For Ruby, the Shakespeare play As You Like It became one of the references that helped her develop the album’s creative world. However, Jennie said every project begins differently, and she prefers to let ideas emerge organically rather than decide on a specific influence from the outset.

The singer also hopes to continue experimenting with her music, saying there are still many sounds, concepts and sides of herself she wants to explore.

“I definitely want to keep working on music and see where that takes me,” she said, while expressing an interest in opportunities beyond the music industry if they feel exciting and natural.

Jennie added that she has not mapped out every step of her future career and enjoys leaving room for curiosity and experimentation.

Her comments reflect an evolving creative direction as she balances her work with Blackpink and her solo career. The group, comprising Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa, has established a global following, while all four members have pursued individual projects.

Jennie has also spoken openly about the toll of the group’s demanding early schedule. In a previous interview with Rolling Stone, she recalled working continuously for three years after Blackpink’s debut, with little rest and limited time at home during an extended touring period.

The experience highlighted the pressures of maintaining an intense performance schedule, even as the group continued to grow internationally.

Now, Jennie appears keen to approach the next stage of her career with greater openness, allowing new experiences and creative influences to guide her music and potential projects beyond it.
