Agitated Man Damages Mister Mobile Fixtures at VivoCity as Police Investigate

A 19-year-old man is assisting police investigations after an incident at VivoCity in which a Mister Mobile outlet’s fixtures were damaged and a security guard was allegedly involved in a physical altercation.

The incident happened at about 2.35pm on Sept. 25 at 1 HarbourFront Walk. Footage of the confrontation later circulated online, showing a man in a red shirt outside the mobile-phone retailer before he allegedly threw an object toward a staff member and pulled at fixtures inside the shop.

The video also showed the man handling a store standee before a security guard intervened. A passer-by subsequently appeared to help calm the situation and escorted the man away from the outlet.

Mister Mobile said the individual became agitated after a trade-in transaction could not proceed. The retailer said he later returned to the store and damaged some of its fixtures.

The company said all of its employees were safe and that none required medical attention. It also thanked VivoCity security, a passer-by who helped during the incident and the police for their response.

The retailer said the matter had been handed over to police and that it would provide CCTV footage to assist with the investigation.

Police said the 19-year-old man is assisting with investigations for alleged mischief and voluntarily causing hurt. No injuries were reported, and investigations remain ongoing.

The incident also prompted online speculation about the man’s behaviour and possible circumstances. Mister Mobile specifically urged members of the public not to speculate, saying it understood that the individual might be experiencing a difficult time but would not comment further while investigations continue.

The episode highlights how a dispute over a retail transaction can quickly escalate into property damage and a police investigation, while the circumstances behind the confrontation remain subject to the ongoing inquiry.

For now, authorities have not publicly established a motive beyond the retailer’s account that the incident followed an unsuccessful trade-in transaction. The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged damage and confrontation.
