Benfica and adidas are taking one of Portuguese football’s longest-running commercial relationships into a new era.
The Lisbon giants have agreed to extend their partnership with the German sportswear giant through 2033, keeping adidas as Benfica’s official technical partner while adding a major new commercial asset to the agreement: naming rights to the club’s training and development center.
The facility in Seixal will now be known as the adidas Benfica Campus, putting the sportswear brand directly alongside the infrastructure where Benfica develops its first-team players and academy talent.
The six-year renewal was announced on September 14, shortly after Benfica unveiled its 2026-27 kits.
Neither Benfica nor adidas disclosed the financial terms of the new agreement. However, Portuguese business publication ECO and sports newspaper A Bola reported that the contract is worth approximately €120 million over six years. Because the clubs and adidas have not officially confirmed that figure, it should be treated as a reported value rather than an announced financial term.
This Is More Than a Kit Deal
The headline may be about adidas continuing to supply Benfica’s shirts, but the more significant change is happening away from the stadium.
Under the renewed agreement, adidas receives naming rights to Benfica’s Training and Development Center in Seixal.
The facility will become the adidas Benfica Campus, creating a permanent brand association between adidas and one of the most important parts of Benfica’s sporting operation.
Benfica says the naming arrangement recognizes the strategic importance of the campus in training athletes and developing future generations of players.
That makes the agreement broader than a conventional shirt-sponsorship or kit-supply contract.
Adidas will remain visible on Benfica’s playing and training apparel, but its name will now also be attached to the physical environment where players are trained and developed.
For a club whose identity is heavily connected with youth development, that gives the partnership an additional layer.
A Relationship That Goes Back Decades
The Benfica-adidas relationship is hardly new.
The two organizations first worked together during the 1983-84 through 1989-90 seasons before their partnership resumed continuously from the 1997-98 season.
That makes the current relationship one of the longest-running technical partnerships in Portuguese football.
Over the years, adidas has supplied kits worn during some of Benfica’s most important modern campaigns.
Benfica specifically highlighted the club’s 2004-05 centennial season and the 2016-17 campaign, when the team secured its fourth consecutive Portuguese championship, as notable chapters in the partnership’s history.
The new extension means the relationship will continue across another generation of players and supporters.
Why the Benfica Campus Matters
The training center in Seixal is much more than a place where the senior squad practices.
The Benfica Campus is central to the club’s player-development system, bringing together first-team operations and academy development.
That makes it particularly valuable to adidas.
Instead of simply appearing on shirts during matches, the brand will now be attached to a facility associated with the development of future Benfica players.
The timing is also significant.
The Benfica Campus opened in 2006, meaning 2026 marks its 20th anniversary. Benfica incorporated that milestone into its 2026-27 kit designs, while the new partnership gives adidas an even deeper connection with the facility.
The Reported €120 Million Price Tag
The financial figure surrounding the agreement has attracted considerable attention.
ECO reported that the new six-year deal is worth €120 million, while A Bola separately reported the same figure and described it as roughly twice the value of Benfica’s previous arrangement.
If that reported figure is accurate, it would translate to an average of approximately €20 million per year across six years.
Portuguese broadcaster Renascença also cited a reported €120 million valuation and said the annual value would be about €20 million.
But there is an important distinction between reported and confirmed numbers.
Benfica’s official announcement did not disclose the value of the contract.
Therefore, the €120 million figure should not be presented as an officially confirmed payment unless Benfica or adidas subsequently publishes the financial terms.
A Bigger Commercial Footprint for Adidas
For adidas, the extension provides long-term visibility with one of Portugal’s biggest football institutions.
But the campus naming rights could be especially valuable.
Football sponsorship has increasingly moved beyond the traditional model of putting a logo on a shirt.
Clubs and brands are looking for ways to integrate commercial partners into training facilities, academies, fan experiences, digital platforms and other parts of their operations.
The Benfica agreement fits that broader trend.
Adidas will continue to have its logo associated with Benfica’s players while also attaching its name to the infrastructure used to develop those players.
That creates exposure throughout the football ecosystem rather than only on match days.
Benfica Gets Long-Term Commercial Certainty
For Benfica, the agreement locks in a major technical partnership until 2033.
That provides the club with a long-term relationship with one of the world’s largest sportswear companies while maintaining continuity across its playing and training apparel.
The deal also comes as Benfica continues to attract international commercial interest.
Bloomberg reported that the club has attracted growing attention from foreign investors, including U.S.-based investment group Lenore Sports Partners, which acquired a stake in Benfica in 2025.
That broader commercial environment makes long-term sponsorship agreements increasingly important to major European clubs.
Rui Costa Calls It a New Chapter
Benfica president Rui Costa described the renewal as a continuation of a relationship built around shared values, trust and a commitment to excellence.
He also emphasized the importance of the naming rights for the campus, describing the facility as fundamental to the club’s present and future.
Adidas football chief Sam Handy similarly described Benfica as one of football’s major institutions and said the company was proud to extend the relationship through 2033.
Adidas Iberia general manager Adolfo Haendler called the partnership one of the most established relationships in adidas’ history.
The language from both sides reflects the significance of the deal: this is being positioned as a long-term institutional relationship rather than simply another kit renewal.
What Changes for Benfica Fans?
For supporters, the most visible change will be the name of the training center.
The Benfica Campus will now carry the adidas name.
The club will also continue producing official adidas kits, with the 2026-27 collection already launched.
For the next six years, every new Benfica generation coming through Seixal will develop inside a facility carrying the name of the same brand that supplies the team’s playing apparel.
That creates a particularly direct connection between adidas, Benfica’s first team and the club’s famed youth-development system.
The Bigger Business Story
The Benfica-adidas renewal illustrates how football sponsorship is evolving.
A traditional technical partnership revolves around shirts, training equipment and retail products.
The new Benfica agreement adds something more permanent: the branding of sporting infrastructure itself.
The adidas Benfica Campus effectively turns one of Benfica’s most important football assets into part of the commercial partnership.
And if the reported €120 million valuation is accurate, the financial scale is equally notable.
Yet the precise economics remain undisclosed by the two parties, meaning the reported figure should be treated with appropriate caution.
What is certain is that adidas and Benfica have committed to each other through 2033 — extending a relationship that has already crossed decades and now putting the sportswear giant’s name directly on the place where Benfica hopes to build its next generation of stars.
The shirts may have started the partnership.
Now the training ground is becoming part of the brand story too.
